This ain’t grandma’s typing school anymore, folks. Miami-Jacobs Career College, located in downtown Dayton, Ohio, stands cloaked in the respectability of a college that has been operating since 1860. When you enter the hallowed halls of the building that they have currently been occupying since 2002, you will see several giant pictures on the wall of students in class in the early days of the last century. After learning some secretarial skills, they went off to have successful careers at such notable places as NCR, Frigidaire, General Motors and others. There is a distinct possibility that grandma, grandpa or Great Aunt Edna -- someone that you know -- successfully attended The Miami- Jacobs Business College of that era.
This history is played up using the pictures, a written version of their history on their website and trotted out by Darlene Waite, current Miami-Jacobs president since December 2000, to the newspapers whenever necessary to give credence to their claims of a long and continued existence. However, according to an article from the Dayton Daily Newspaper, dated December 17, 2003, this particular school was sold to a private for-profit company on December 2 of that year. “Other schools in the chain have grown significantly. . .” Waite was quoted as saying at the time, while declining to identify the buyer.
The Miami-Jacobs Business College Company has remained undisturbed as a corporation, according to public records, since the first filing shown for the company on November 2, 1904. On the school’s website, there is no mention in the history of the school about being sold to another corporation, unlike a similar for-profit school that has been around Dayton since the 1950’s -- RETS Tech Center -- who also lists the name of the company that bought them in 2005. At the Miami-Jacobs website, there is no list of executives, board of directors or trustees. There is only Darlene Waite, president.
In fact, they’ve gone so far to remain anonymous, that the same Charles Campbell whose family had owned The Miami-Jacobs Business College Company for nearly 100 years at that time, continued on as the Domestic Agent designee for corporate filings with the Ohio Secretary of State’s office until January 4, 2008, over five years later. When Darlene Waite became the designated agent, her appointment, as required by law, was signed by authorized representative Kevin A. Smith, CFO, but doesn’t say what he is the CFO of.
What are they trying to hide? I asked Marcia Byrd, Financial Aid Director of Miami-Jacobs, how many locations the school has. She said she didn‘t know. When I questioned how she could not know, she then informed me that, in addition to the 5 other Miami- Jacob locations, they have “sister associations.” She could not tell me how many. It is clear that even the employees know little about the operation -- or they are not telling. I asked her for an organizational chart for both companies but never received them. I had to find out that information for myself.
I don’t have access to property records going back as far as 1860, but I can tell you that Miami-Jacobs is leasing their current location. In other words, even though they are a 149 year old institution in this town, they are not investing in it.
Why does all this matter to us? We are pouring our state and federal tax dollars into a private for-profit company that has taken great steps to remain anonymous, or at the very least, Miami-Jacobs has taken great steps to hide them. Why? And why should we care?
Whether you are a concerned parent or frustrated taxpayer, according to data obtained from ed.gov, the official Department of Education website, 100% of Miami-Jacobs students receive federal student loans, 91% receive federal grants and 81% receive state grants. The tuition for the 2008-2009 academic year is $11,590. Per Student.
Ed.gov reports 811 students attending the main campus of Miami-Jacobs. According to press releases, the Troy and Springboro locations have a student capacity of 400 each, and there are 3 more locations: Cincinnati, Columbus and Akron.
With specialized training, very few, if any credits transfer to other schools, even other trade schools with the same program. For example, Rets Tech Center reports that a maximum of 16 credits may be transferred to their school, and strict criteria must be met. A “retention rate” is calculated by how many enrolling freshman come back the following year to continue their education. Miami-Jacobs retention rate is currently 57%.
Still, 100 % of Miami-Jacobs students at the main campus receive federal loans that do have to be paid back. If the students do not come back and get their degrees for whatever reason, even though the credits go away, I can assure you the loans do not. According to ed.gov, the average loan for a student at Miami-Jacobs for the school year 2006-2007 is $4,008.
With only a 33% graduation rate at Miami-Jacobs and a loan default rate that at 21.9% is well over 3 times the national average of 6.9%, according to the school’s statistics at the Ed.gov website. We are not getting much for our investment and neither are the students.
Consider this, early last year Miami-Jacobs was in the news due to two different programs that it offers. The nursing program was in trouble after a review in September 2007 by the Ohio Board of Nursing ended with the program placed on a conditional approval due to inadequate “clinicals” in the proper range of health care settings. The program was also accused of “consistently” lacking to provide a qualified administrator for the program. That program has been fixed, according to later articles from the Dayton Daily News and a new administrator was put in place. A new review was supposed to take place in March of 2009, but the web site is still showing a conditional approval as the date of this post.
Additionally, 7 former students from the surgical technology program sued the school last year alleging that the program wasn’t properly accredited. Due to the enrollment agreement that contains an arbitration clause, they were forced to take the case to arbitration instead of the court system. According to Jane Peach, attorney for the students, that case is still pending a year later. Unfortunately for the students, the low level publicity that most arbitration cases receive has kept that case out of the news. The last newspaper coverage was a letter to the editor of the Dayton Daily News from Darlene Waite on June 12, 2008 defending the school and, again, trotting out its sterling 148 year history.
None the less, in light of Miami-Jacobs heavy reliance on government aid for its students and their poor record of educating them, it is time for the school to quit hiding behind its past and look to the future of its students. This is not a 149 year old school; it is a 5 year old school. It is not still owned by a century’s worth of Harbottles and Campbells.
It is, in fact, owned by a company called Delta Career Education Corporation that is owned by a $700 million dollar private equity company called Gryphon Investors, who bought it from the original purchaser, Huron Capital Partners LLC. Getting dizzy yet? To be fair, it is true that Huron Capital put out a press release when they bought Miami-Jacobs, as did Gryphon Investors, but I don’t think we got the memo.
According to Gryphon Investors website, Delta Career Education Corporation is “one of the leading privately held education providers in the U.S.” All of the schools are similar to Miami-Jacobs in that they all offer vocational education and provide certificates, diplomas and degrees to their students -- and offer federal financial aid to their students. With Miami-Jacobs and its 5 other locations, they have 30 campuses in 12 different states and 12,000 students to go along with them. They operate under “strong regional brand names, some with over 100+ years of history,” according to Gryphon's website.
These schools include Miller-Mott Technical School, founded in 1916 by Judge Leon Mott in Wilmington, North Carolina. They now have 9 locations. Lamson College was founded in 1889 by Colonel Edwin M. Lamson in a house in Phoenix, Arizona and is the oldest private college in the state. They now have 2 locations. The McCann School of Business was founded in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania in 1897, 112 years ago. Some of the schools admit to being owned by Delta, but none say that they are being held (up?) by a $700 million dollar private equity firm.
No, I wasn’t kidding about the big bucks those federal loans and grants bring in. When Huron Capital sold Delta Educational Systems to Gryphon Investors, it was sold for 11.1 times what Huron had originally paid for it all: $120 million -- just 2 short years after bringing Miami Jacobs into the fold. These companies have been very aggressive in expanding Miami-Jacobs since they bought it. Miami-Jacobs has added 5 new locations in as many years.
I am not against capitalism nor am I against specialized training. In fact, I am a big proponent of vocational education. Many students thrive in a hands-on learning environment who fail in a traditional class room setting. What I am against is making that money on the backs of our young people while leaving many of them without an education, but with a boatload of debt in the form of student loans. To be fair, not all the schools under the Delta umbrella have the same sorry graduation rates. McCann’s in Pottsville, Pennsylvania has an 87% rate. The Miller-Mott campus in Wilmington, North Carolina has a 49% graduation rate.
But where is the government oversight? Can it possibly be legal for a school like Miami-Jacobs who receives so much government money in the form of student financial aid, both state and federal, to “decline to name their buyer?” In any case, I don’t understand why that article on the sale didn’t raise a red flag for a reader, or possibly even the newspaper itself, to do a bit more investigating.
For instance, Huron Capital Partners LLC, Miami-Jacob’s original buyer, hasn’t gotten out of the education business. Huron still owns Ross Education LLC, a postsecondary career school company that has 14 locations, including 2 in Ohio. Joseph Kennedy, the current CEO of Delta, who owns Miami-Jacobs, is a member of the Board of Directors for Ross Education LLC. He is also listed as an “Executive Partner” of Huron Capital, even though his company is now owned by Gryphon Investors. Huron Capital also lists as a “Select Limited Partner” National City Bank, among other financial institutions, who is a purveyor of federal student loans for the government. As the old saying goes, it sounds like they are all in bed together. Shouldn’t we all have a right to know that?
Due to a federal loan default by my daughter because of false information received by the financial aid office at Miami-Jacobs, we turned to Congressman Michael Turner’s office for help. During a phone conversation with an employee of his local office who deals with constituent education problems, I mentioned the ownership of Miami-Jacobs. I asked this very question: Why don’t we have government oversight of these private companies that own these for-profit colleges and receive all these government dollars? Her answer? “Don’t you think that we have government oversight?” Well, frankly, no . . . . no, I don’t. At least, not nearly enough, if an institution like Miami-Jacobs can mislead the public for so many years about who they are.
There seems to be something intrinsically wrong when our tax dollars, in the form of federal and state financial aid, goes unchecked into the bank accounts of the super rich. This is happening on the backs of some of our most vulnerable citizens: students fresh out of high school. Many of these students are poor and Miami-Jacobs represents a way out. Many, if not most, of these students begin Miami-Jacobs with little or no credit history, not a bad credit history. Thousands of dollars later, they leave, but do they leave armed with an education? Not many of them. Remember, the school only has a 33% graduation rate.

Miami-Jacobs Career College -- Just What Is It That They Are Trying To Hide?

I am a student at miami jacobs as i type, and am supposed to graduate in august/i have had so many problems with this school it is unbelievable. with teachers NOT qualified to teach our classes, clinical hours that are NOT being given to us, the PRICE of 22,000 dollars for this program. I am fed up and want this school to be repremended for the actions they are doing..or better yet not doing.ReplyDelete
I am a student at Miami Jacobs, and am completely displeased and aggravated with the school and its lack of concern for students. Thus far, several of my classmates have either quit the program they were enrolled in, or switched school (not an easy task, as most credits do not transfer.) I checked into it myself, but was unable to due to a personal situation. I will be forwarding this link to all of my classmates, I know many feel the same way. I hope something gets done.ReplyDelete
Thank you, Anonymous. My daughter's problem was cleared up, but not by the school. I had to do it myself. I have another article to post here, so please come back to take a look. Also, there is help, in the form of the Ohio Board of Career Colleges. Please consider filing a complaint with them if you are unhappy with the quality of your education there. The web site is http://www.scr.ohio.gov Also, only by taking the proper steps will we be able to prevent other students from enrolling without having all the facts at their disposal.ReplyDelete
Miami Jacobs bought out our school in Ohio 2 years ago. Since then it has been in shambles. They are negligent in providing us with the education needed to secure a job in this field.ReplyDelete
Instead, they opt to become accredited by the Ohio Board of Regents to receive grants and loans from the state. In order to comply with their requirments of opperating a 4 year college, they fired all of the teachers who were experts in their field for years and mess around with our requirments and add requirments, taking away the ones we need to get jobs, and replacing and appending them with Gen Ed ones not related to the ones they previously replaced.
They cover everything up by talking to the students like kindergardeners when they know damn well there are lawsuits.
Anonymous, I would love to hear more about this. I am assuming that you are talking about the ACR now operating under the MJ name. Please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org and give me more info about this. You don't have to worry. I guarantee that your identity will remain confidential unless you agree otherwise.ReplyDelete
What I don't understand is why we were told that our schedules would be done last Thursday and here it is Monday and I have no idea when I have class next quarter...don't these people know that the some students have jobs that they have to work around and children to find sitters for. Get your crap together already. It's not like you are operating a major university with hundreds of thousands of students to consider. I really wish I would have known what I was getting into. School is hard enough and then to have to worry about if your school is screwing you over makes it seem impossible.ReplyDelete
I used to work for Darlene Waite at Miami Jacobs. I could tell you stories that would make your hair stand on end. This type of school is a for profit school and their ONLY interest is padding the bank accounts of their investors. Students come second and in some cases not even that high. Another person to watch out for in this organization called Delta Education is a lady named Joanie Krein.ReplyDelete
My daughter is currently enrolled at MJ and has completed two years in the Surgical Tech program. She's in debt for stduent loans and I'm out over $5,000 that I pitched in to help. She was supposed to graduate and get her degree?/certificate? next month (November 2009), but because MJ does not have enough clinical sites, she's basically stuck in limbo. I can't believe there's no recourse for students when a college doesn't deliver the education/degree they promised. Is there absolutely nothing we can do? I'm livid over this!ReplyDelete
Please also read my article at http://hubpages.com/hub/For-Profit-Colleges----Are-Our-Students-And-Taxpayers-Being-Served-or-Ripped-OffReplyDelete
I urge you to complain to the Ohio Board of Career Colleges in spite of that article. Someone HAS to stop this nonsense and get our legislature to do more to protect the students at these for-profit colleges. I also urge you to contact me personally with your story. Every little bit helps and I have not used anyone's name publicly.
When my daughter had her problem with Miami-Jacobs, there was no negative information. Now, if you google Miami-Jacobs and complaints or problems, my articles will pop up. That, at least, helps future students to make a better decision about going there.
An illness has derailed me from continuing on with my articles about Miami-Jacobs and others like them, but I am on the mend and intend to keep it up until people are more educated on these schools and start writing their Congressmen demanding that our tax dollars (and the students) are protected when students attend these schools. Please email me again with better details that I can, hopefully, use in an article (again...confidentiality is guaranteed).
I'm sorry to hear you've been ill and wish you a speedy recovery. I will most definitely provide you all the information I can. I showed this website to my daughter, who is also very angry over her situation and wants some answers. I'm so grateful I found your website. Thank you, thank you, thank you for putting this out there. If nothing else, it at least affirms what we've suspected for the past few months. By the way, I couldn't figure out how to put my name in without listing a URL, but I'm Susan and my daughter is Kelly. We'll put together some facts and send them your way. What details, specifically, do you need?ReplyDelete
God bless you and I hope you are feeling better. The outright fraud that Miami Jacobs gets away with has to be stopped. The Ohio Board of Career Colleges and Schools is made up of school owners so I don't think they are the right ones to contact. You may want to try the Ohio Attorney Generals office to get some action.ReplyDelete
MJ respiratory program also lacks credibility. The graduates have very little knowledge of the discipline and have truly been sold a bag of false hopes. These respiratory therapists cannot function in their field due to the lack of clinical affiliates (hospitals) in Dayton willing to accept them. Many of the current students have to drive to Columbus, Indianapolis to find hospitals that will accept their nonsense and soon those hospitals will not accept them as well. Last year, students were driving to Lousiville, Ky and Toledo in desparation to have a clinical affiliate where they could gain experience. Such a sham and a shame! Clinical instructors are totally inept. The state should not fund this school for any reason.ReplyDelete
MOst hospitals in dayton will not hire any MJ respiratory therapy graduates because of the low quality of education and they are dangerous to patient safety. Many of them do not pass the entry level boards, let alone the advanced pratitioner! They have a very high board failure rate. THese folks, if hired, will operate life support systems! Not mine or my family's! They are so idadeaquatel educated that many of them can not function at a basic level of care!I think Grandview is the only one in the REGION that will hire them and I think they are reconsidering that practice. Ruth Anne O'brien should be fired, CoArc should remove any accreditation and the school should close. MJ is stealing taxpayer $$.ReplyDelete
Funny you should mention Miami-Jacob's respiratory therapy students and Grandview Hospital....I was in Grandview Hospital for 36 days starting 8/31/2009 for RESPIRATORY FAILURE. The minute I was not comatose, I started interviewing Miami-Jacobs students who were there for respiratory therapy clinicals. I did hear one bad comment from a non-student about Miami-Jacob's students and a problem that occurred at the hospital that caused ALL the students to be called into a meeting. The problem was not disclosed, but it was obviously severe enough that someone felt all the students should be warned or educated by it. Unfortunately, that was all the info I could get on it.ReplyDelete
What I did find was that, as a whole, the students seemed satisfied with the program, but they are still in it and most were in what I would consider the beginning of the second year of class. I was surprised that most everyone seemed satisfied with the program since my mail reflects that most students aren't satisfied with their education at M-J. I've never had any mail from respiratory therapy students before. Still, not surprisingly, one student was having a problem with the financial aid office. Since I know all about THEIR competence level --financial aid, that is --(or should I just say they are very incompetent!), I was not surprised about that.
The students who did my respiratory care were very nice and I liked every one of them. Of course, all any of them had to do was fill my breathing apparatus up with a solution and wait while I breathed it in. That is not putting any of them down, because I was very impressed with all of them in their desires to be respiratory therapists.
In fact, I had a MAJOR problem one day (which lasted ONE HOUR)in which I felt very ill. I was overheated, felt very anxious, I could not breathe good and felt I wasn't getting enough oxygen. I called for the nurse, who put a wet cloth on my head and left me ( I asked for respiratory therapy and told her I wasn't able to breathe good and felt overheated). It took the second call before they contacted respiratory. Kelly (a student) came within 2 minutes of being called. It was funny because her and I were the only ones who knew that I was really having a problem. The nurses never offered to do any vitals, but one (an RN!) kept trying to bring in a scale to weigh me for another procedure, a doc stopped in to introduce herself and another nurse kept bothering me about an IV I needed (for the later procedure). I kept telling everyone I was not able to deal with it, that I couldn't breathe, but without Kelly's calming influence, I am not sure that I would have gotten through it. The whole hour (that I felt this way) felt more like an episode of Becker than professionals at a hospital and I KNEW that the most competent person available at the time was KELLY, the student from Miami-Jacobs. I knew that was ironic as well and focusing on that probably is the only thing that kept me from having a major asthma attack, which is how I had the original respiratory failure in the first place. Later, I REAMED out the main nurse (an RN) and told her how I suffered through that hour and was amazed by the fact that the only person who helped me was a student from M-J! Guess what? None of that is in my records, which I went down to view after I was released. However, in those same records, it says that I "refused (the procedures that I needed for later)" like I was an unruly and unaccomodating patient.
I sure hope that Kelly and the others are able to find work after they graduate and that they end up doing clinicals in places where they will get the additional training that they might need to succeed. I wish all of them the best. The students at Miami-Jacobs are GREAT!!! It is the school that is bad! It is unbelievable that this is allowed and that our tax dollars are going to this school. Isn't there anyone out there listening?
I wish I would have found this information before enrolling at Miami-Jacobs. I am at the Troy Campus in the LPN program. I have had nothing but problems with this school. I heard a rumor that State is going to shut down the LPN program. Do you have any info on that? I have been trying to verify this information.
Another person to watch out for in this organization is their Regional Director of Admissions Mike Montgomery. He is the person in charge of their Sales people. This school and others like it are numbers driven. If the sales person doesn't meet their numbers they are written up and sometimes let go. They are ONLY worried about revenue for their investors and not the student. You are right the students are great, the school is crooked.ReplyDelete
To Anonymous who goes to the Troy Campus in Nursing: Here is the link for the "Consent Agreement" that was signed in March of this year:ReplyDelete
If this link does not work, go to the main website at www.nursing.ohio.gov then look on the left side for "Education Programs" click that link and scroll down until you see the Consent Agreements, then click on Miami-Jacobs.
I have not read the whole Consent Agreement yet, but I scanned through it after placing a call to the Ohio Board of Nursing. According to the agreement, they have until March of 2010 to get everything up to par or they will lose their accreditation to teach nursing. According to the person that I spoke with at the Ohio Board of Nursing, the school is required to send in monthly progress reports to the Board. I asked her what would happen to the students who had not graduated if the school did not meet the requirements by March 2010 and she said I needed to speak with her supervior, who is, unfortunately, out of town until Monday. I left my name and number on the supervisor's voice mail and if I don't have a call back by noon, I will call her again. Check back for a progress report. In the meantime, if you have not read my other articles on this school, please read my other articles on this school at http://hubpages.com/hub/For-Profit-Colleges----Are-Our-Students-And-Taxpayers-Being-Served-or-Ripped-Off This is one article and the other two links are at the bottom of the article.

I read the Consent Agreement. I find it strange that Ms. Waite did not sign it since she is the college president. It was signed by the Department Head and the attorney for MJ. Hmmmmmmm. Me thinks I smell something fishy going on as usual with these people.ReplyDelete
There would be something fishy if nothing fishy was going on with this school, lol. Nothing surprises me that I hear. I have a great story about Ms. Waite that I've been sitting on for some time. Not sure what to do about it, as I really would like some publicity over it.ReplyDelete
One thing is certain....the Ohio Board of Career Colleges and the legislature are falling down on the job of protecting the students at these for-profit schools. For instance, Miami-Jacobs should have been REQUIRED to inform the new nursing student of the status of the license. Does that make it harder to recruit students? Sure it would, but it would also make the school work harder to make sure that they follow the program to the letter to NOT get into the predicament in the first place. Of all the schools in Ohio that teach nursing, there are SEVEN with these agreements and Miami-Jacobs is one of them! What does this say about this school?
My daughter is (was) a nursing student at MJ...3 weeks until graduation and she has been dismissed from the program. Why you ask? She gave a fellow student who is a diabetic his insulin shot in the car and she aspirated blood back into the needle. Now they have dismissed her for practicing medicine without a license. Now she has to file an appeal to try to get back in. But they won't return her calls to instruct her how to do this. My daughter is so hurt and feels like her life is over. We need desparate help here to fight this. We have contacted an attorney and he says she has to appeal before we can bring a lawsuit against them. No one will help us. We have no idea what to do...and of course they get to keep the tuition money we have alreay paid. HELP PLEASEReplyDelete
I am not sure what the greivance process is at the school. It should be in some literature that they handed out when your daughter joined. Still, I am sure you will get no help from the school. However, you may contact the Ohio Board of Career Colleges and try to talk to someone there....their number is (614)466-2752. The number to the Ohio Board of Nursing (for questions and issues related to licensure) is (614)995-7675. You might call them and find out if your daughter is still eligle to receive a license in the state after this incident. If that is the case, Miami-Jacobs would not have any reason to deny her and you will be able to use this in your fight against them. If it indeed keeps your daughter from getting the license, it will be a shame, but still the fact is well known, there will be nothing you can do. Still, she should be able to get a degree for the school work since she is only THREE WEEKS from graduation. Unfortunately, these credits do not transfer to other schools (RETS Tech College will take up to SIXTEEN credits from another school and very picky on them), but these credits are really only good at this school and it is a shame that students are not better informed of this. It is one of the reasons I do this.ReplyDelete
Good luck. If you would like to speak to me, you may write me at Connie997@aol.com In order to get my own daughter's problem fixed, I had to go out of the school. They were absolutely no help (on a problem THEY helped to cause!). I have no faith in anyone helping you there.
According to the Ohio Board of Nursing, IF any school that is under a consent license does not make the changes needed and is denied the license at the end of the inspection period, the students who were currently attending the program would be out of luck. Students who had already successfully completed the program, but had not sat for the exam would still be allowed to do that and get licensed.ReplyDelete
Once again, contacting the Ohio Board of Career Colleges is a waste of time. It is comprised of current and former school owners. They always look the other way when it comes to a for profit school. It is best to contact the Ohio Attorney Generals office to report this fraud. Hey Connie, PLEASE tell us the story about Ms.Waite that you have been sitting on.ReplyDelete
Hey Anonymous, you make the allegation that the board are former and current school owners. However, how do you know this? What schools are they from? That would make a great article with the fox watching the hen house, but I need to know your sources on that.ReplyDelete
I fear you will be greatly disappointed on the info that I have regarding Ms. Darlene R. Waite as it is quite old....still it curled my lip and showed her character (in my opinion) and I can tie it to current events in a small way.... Okay, give me a few days and I will post it, most likely at hubpages.com where I have a MUCH better readership. If that happens, I will post the link here.
Connie, let's just say I know this to be true. I can't disclose my source. Fair enough on the story. I look forward to reading it. Just post a link here since I am not familiar with hubpages.comReplyDelete
I'm sorry, anonymous....I am in the process of moving from one state to another. We have had sales, etc. and 4 children to deal with from the ages of 4 months to 4 years old. It has been crazily hectic and I am still recuperating from my illness and going to the doctor several times a week. I promise that I will get that out as soon as I can. Please keep checking back.ReplyDelete
Hope everything is going OK with you Connie in regards to your health and your move. I sure would like to hear that story about Darlene when you get the time. Thanks.ReplyDelete
Hi Anonymous! My health is fine, except I am exhausted and watching my grandchildren, one of which is 5 months old until my daughter can find a good nursery school. I sent her out today to one which I hope is the one that works. I was thinking yesterday that I hope you haven't given up on me. I will get busy on it asap.ReplyDelete
Well, Connie, hope you had a great Christmas and that Santa was good to you and your family. Now, back to the story. I think I have had to "waite" long enough for it. lolReplyDelete
MJCC is a crap school that should be shut down. They hire anyone that can speak to teach their classes. I am in the RT program, and have invested so much money that I have to finish. I know I don't have a shot in hell of passing the CRT, but plan on taking the Kettering Review and hope that will get me through. You don't learn anything at this school, that's why you are given the test questions and your quizs to study for the final in order to pass the classes. They spoon feed you so you pass in order for them to continue to take your money. If you can memorize you can get through the 2 year program, but you will not learn anything this way. I don't want to take care of anyone on a vent, I am afaird of myself, because I have not learned shit! The furture of my family is on this, and I feel that I made a huge mistake. Going to college was a big mistake for me, because I feel that the only job i'll be looking for after I gradute is Mcdonalds.ReplyDelete
Wow, I am truly sorry to hear your story. That is such a shame. I am still waiting to hear the story that Connie promised us on Darlene Waite.ReplyDelete
Gosh, I am really getting tired of "waiteing" to hear this story. I am starting to think there really is no story. Prove me wrong Connie!ReplyDelete
I tried to contact Connie about information I have on MJCC. NO reply......... Good luck to anyone that attends MJCC. There is an emphasis on the bottom line not education. Can I recommend ITT or Sinclair. you will be money ahead even after buying your books, and you will have a grasp of the concept at every level.. JrReplyDelete
I apologize to all who have been waiting to hear from me -- especially about the story on Darlene Waite (which I do have). As I said before, we made a major move (doing most all of the work ourselves -- much of it myself) back at the end of November. For all of you who do not know, I had a major illness at the end of August -- respiratory FAILURE from an asthma attack, which was so severe I had to be intubated by the ambulance crew. I was given Heparin (a blood thinner) while in the hospital which I was allergic to. It left me very anemic as well as having virtually NO blood platelets. I developed Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (and blood clots in my leg and lungs) and was in the hospital for 36 days, also requiring many trips to the doctor since. The move (which was like 3 moves as I have just gotten settled into my own new apartment this past week, the holidays, my four grandchildren, etc., and my 6 month old grandson in ICU (RSV and bronchialitis) for a week just getting out a week ago have left me physically and emotionally exhausted.ReplyDelete
However, as I was in the hospital wondering why I lived (see http://hubpages.com/hub/The-Day-I-Was-Supposed-To-Die ) I was interviewing the respiratory therapist students from Miami-Jacobs. I really feel that the reason is because I have barely gotten started with my fight against for-profit colleges, in particular, Miami-Jacobs. I do not plan to give up the fight and will contact those who have written me this week. I will also publish that article on Darlene Waite asap. Please do not give up on me. I am in this for the long haul. When I first published this article, not one thing popped up in Google on Miami-Jacobs complaints or problems. Now, there is. I have also written a series of articles on Hubpages.com under my real name, Connie Smith, on for-profit colleges. These articles have brought me a lot of contact personally from people who have been burned by Miami-Jacobs, along with a few others. I have responded in a timely manner to them all and I regret that this week I have just been unable to work. However, I am now back on track and feeling quite a bit better. I do appreciate all of you taking an interest and doing your part to help.
I was a student at Miami-Jacobs I went there for a while and read the writing on the wall. State was paying Man there were wasting the states money. Anyways......I hear the rest of the students liked it and this top 10 list, that didn't make it on Letterman sums it up as to why students love going there;ReplyDelete

I am a student at Miami Jacobs college and currently enrolled in the nursing program. I receive GI benefits from the Army to help pay for this school. Due to the fact that the Miami Jacobs VA rep. did not file my paper work correctly, my money did not come in on time to help pay my way through school. I went to the VA rep at troy campus and told her i was not receiving my money and noticed that she had put my social in wrong on all the paper work. i had to point that out to her, and the fact that it would take more time now to get this money. She told me that she didnt care if i couldnt pay my bill for miami jacobs that i would be kicked out of school. i explained to her that it wouldnt happen like that and basically had to fight my way through. A month went by and i had still not recieved my money, i then went down again to address the issue. As it turned out the va rep from troy campus screwed the paperwork up again. At this point i knew that i would be behind on my bills and that the finacial burden that i would have to endure for the following months would be severe. At that time my car was getting ready to be repo and all my bills were going to collections. I was adament on standing my ground and was just told by miami jacobs that there school would be paid first before i got my money. At this point i was on the phone with my regional VA. They informed me they were not happy with the school and the way they operated. They told me there under investigation and i should drop out of this school and attend a better institution. I started school June 15th and didnt recieve any of my money till December 23rd. I have had many other problems with this school that if i hadnt addressed and fought my way through i would have been thrown out already. At this moment i am sitting in class with no teacher it is 11:44 am and class started at 9:00 AM.ReplyDelete
DO NOT GO TO MIAMI JACOBS. You will not find a job in Dayton... and why are you sitting in a class for an hour and 44 minutes when there is no instructor. The scholl may be inept, but you sound like your STUPID!ReplyDelete
WOW stupid. First of all you might want to learn how to spell before you go labeling people as stupid. S C H O O L is how you spell school. I sat in class because i was told if i left i would be dismissed from the program, and since this is my third quarter and i already wasted the money so no i am not going to get kicked out now. If you have anything more to say please make sure you put your name. SO I CAN CONFRONT YOU IN PERSON TO SCHOOL YOU ON WHY THE HELL I HATE MIAMI JACOBS!!!!!!!!!!!! My name is Sara Auxier and trust me i am more capable of writing something that makes sense. Keep your comments to yourself little one.ReplyDelete
OMG, we have been "waiteing" THREE months to hear this story. I am beginning to wonder if there really is a story to tell. Prove me wrong Connie.ReplyDelete
I just attended a CPR Professional class at Miami Jacobs. It was a big group. Made up of Nurses and Medical assistants. You will not believe this!! They passed out a book went over compressions and depths. They did NOT even bring any CPR manikins. It took 45 minutes and it was all over!! I feel so like they are just pushing me through and don't care about what happens to me, the patients or the public at large. This is just not right.ReplyDelete
I hope I do not have to do CPR at My Clinical rotation.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do or who I can call?............. Frustrated
I find these comments very interesting. I am a former Program Director for MJCC, I could add a few stories of my own.ReplyDelete
Please tell us these stories. The public needs to know. Did you have any direct dealings with Darlene Waite or Joanie Krein? I am anxious to hear from you anonymous.ReplyDelete
For myself, I have been derailed again by illness. As most of you know, I moved to Florida, finally got settled in and then I just came back to Ohio to tie up some loose ends. I ended up BACK in the hopspital, where I temporarily residing. For those who would like to reach me while I am here, my direct line is (937)208-1988 or anyone is always welcome to call me on my cell at (727)638-2178. Just these comments are becoming very interesting reaading as we go along. I truly am sorry that I've had so many health problems (in more ways than one!) but I do promise that I have not given up on my fight to bring the busisness practices of this school and other for-profit colleges to the attention of propective students.ReplyDelete
To Anonomymous who wrote on Feb 18 about the CPR class: Will you email me (or at least post anonomyously) the name of the company who certified your CPR registration. I am quite curious to ask them a few questions on THEIR business practices. Having had several CPR certifications myself, I have a bit of knowledge on the procedure and have never attended one that did not have a manniquin and TWO hours of training, along with a test at the end of the program.ReplyDelete
So connie, ur at the Valley?ReplyDelete
I am curretly an ST student and I know that M-J has lost Miami Valley as a clincial site and there is a new clinical director which i like her ... the main thing i hate is the fact that we have 6 weeks to learn Pharm, Major and minor surgical procedures, A&P and micro..... OUR MAJOR CLASSES WE NEED TO KNOW in which my opinion we need more time then 4 days a week 2 and a half hrs for 6 weeks.. its not cutting it.... I start clinicals as of March 8th.. we are now suppose to tak the cert exam before we graduate instead of waiting one year or 45 days which i think is a good idea so we dont waste time goofin off.. also now they are trying to get it where once you learn how to scrub gown and glove.. you will be able to go to a site for a day or so and see how it is going to be... in which they should have done from the get go..... also how a certain program director acts towrds particular students is not right... the finanical aid dept is a joke i seriously dont think they know what they are talking about u have to wait 60% of the 2nd quarter or whatever to get ur left over money and then they want to hold it for intrest... well intrest this.. this is my money and Im paying you to teach me there should be no hold on it when im the one going in debt to make it through life until I am finished ad continue to be in debt when i am done. I can tell you this... once I am done if i do not have A JOB WITHIN A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME AFTERWARDS I WILL BE PAYING A VISIT TO THIS SCHOOL. I could go on and on but I am sure most of the people reading this get what im saying!ReplyDelete
That school is a joke, I attended when it was ACR (before it became Miami Jacobs) what a nightmare that was! I only attended a short time too 2 nights (thank God for that). I had problems w/ the financial aid dept and getting everything in order (as my husband & I made too much money for assistance and the student loans they wanted to give me would not cover everything)...so when I was told my student loan was "denied"....I then asked them how much my husband & i would have to pay out of our own pockets...no one could give me a straight answer...I kept getting different answers from everyone! I still dont understand how we got denied on the student loan, my husband and I have perfect credit?! Either way I felt as if something wasnt right and decided to drop out right then and there before the "tab" got too high....they tried to talk me into staying w/ some high pressure crap (I believe I was told we could put it all on a credit card ....DONT THINK SO) but after it was all said it done....the VP of that branch gives me the "total" of what I owe written down on a YELLOW STICKY NOTE! I told him that my husband and I dont make it a practice to pay bills written on sticky notes...and that I would appreciate an invoice w/ details and once I got that I would be more than happy to pay the school...I have yet to get that invoice.ReplyDelete
Good morning, Trust me they will send you an invoice. They are just waiting for another quarter to ad some interest. Did you get any grants at all? They could also just be turning your bill over to a collection agency. I do not trust them nor do I recommend them. STUDENTS please do your homework and look at all your options before applying for this school.ReplyDelete
Most students loans are not pardoned in backrupcy... so you will always owe something GO to Sinclair..
ACR is the Academy of Court Reporting, bought by Delta Career Education (M-J's parent company). Though there are ACR's in Michigan and Pennsylvania, in Ohio, the name has been changed to Miami-Jacobs to capitalize on the 150 years that M-J has supposedly been in business. The ACR's in Columbus, Akron and Cincinnati are now Miami-Jacobs campuses. The ACR in Michigan just settled a $32 million dollar lawsuit with students over promising students there an associate's degree without being authorized by the state of Michigan to award them. You may read more about that at http://hubpages.com/hub/For-Profit-Colleges----Are-Our-Students-And-Taxpayers-Being-Served-or-Ripped-Off which is an article written by me at hubpages.com. Fortunately for "Feb 25 anonymous" she might have gotten lucky with the transition of the school from ACR to M-J as that is not a new development. "Anonymous March 1" is right, however. They will stick it to you if they can. In Montgomery County court records, there are several cases which show that Miami-Jacob's has placed liens on homes for a tiny $800 bill, etc. I tried to contact several of the parties to get details, but never got any responses. It is definitely an area of interest that I hope to expand upon in the future.ReplyDelete
As for me, I am still in Miami Valley Hospital, hoping to be released on Tuesday, but not quite sure yet. Still, I am quite well enough to speak to anyone who may have an interesting story to tell. Again, my number here is 937-208-1988. Call me, Anonynmous!
Miami Jacobs has 2 instructors that have submitted false attendence records for a clinical in Nov.2009 and Feb.5,2010.I know because I was one of the students that was involved in the fraud.Come to find out both bds. also have it in writing from a group of these students! There has also been blatant racism, favoritism, coveups by the staff of the PN Program and so much more. The only way to expose them, and they will be exposed,is for all of you out there to write in,tell what you know about their practices, help us please to get the truth out. Some of us are willing to take this all the way but we can't do alone, help us please!Write the bd. of nursing, they will never disclose who you are, write the State Bd. of Career Colleges and Schools, you can rest assured that they will investigate and no one will ever know who you are. This school must be exposed for what they are!ReplyDelete
Watch this site for some very interesting info about fraud ,cover-ups, lies ,racism and discrimination in the PN Program. Some of us are not afraid to tell the truth,we are on a mission to tell the people what's really going on in this school!ReplyDelete
As a former MJCC employee I can tell you that falsifying attendance records is grounds for termination. The offending teachers will be dealt with if it is in fact true. MJCC administration lose sleep at night worrying about two things: losing their licenses and litigation. Mid-level management people spend a majority of their time in CYA mode, creating paper trails and sitting around brainstorming how we can avoid litigation. As a result, the most important business at hand (educating the student) goes by the wayside. I have a unique perspective in terms of how this place is run.ReplyDelete
I'm currently a student at the troy Campus in Medical Assisting. I'm 3 months from graduating and financial aid pulled me into their office and said if I didn't pay 250.00 out of my own pocket that I could not graduate. They said it was a new policy that all students have to pay 50.00 a month to attend their school. I could to talk to the Dean but he never returns calls. so I'm just wondering if there is a new policy that states that all students have to pay 50.00 a month out of their own pocket.ReplyDelete
Maybe it's their "policy" to terminate employees for falsifying attendance records but I can assure you it happened and instead of terminating the two instructors they gave one of them more hours and nothing has happened, the PN Administrator and the cilinical director told us they are "investigating".Come on,it's been over 3 weeks!I know for a fact they covered it up but it will come out, this issue is being investigated by attorney's,you know what makes it so sad,THERE ARE records of messages sent to students asking about those days,if they had said anything about it because this person knew they were ,in her own words "digging"about what had been said!I think that something really big is about to happen and it's not going to be good for Miami Jacobs, they are going to be exposed for their illegal acts, financial mismanagement, discriminatory practices and cover-ups.ReplyDelete
Discrimination at MJCC hahaa NO way!!!! I have worked there. I was not there long. Was told to go ahead and pass a student that failed. I would not, then I was over ruled and the Dean Passed them anyways........... You don't need instructors............. Just pass everyone OH, I sure feel sorry about the other 2 in he class that failed. Don't know why whey weren't pushed down the pipeline???ReplyDelete
Well, well....there are very interesting developments afoot. It is obvious that some of you are starting to take a regular look at this comment section to see what the latest "anonymous" has said. Please stay tuned because there are some shocking and appalling stories coming out in the next few days. This is some exciting stuff.ReplyDelete
If, like "anonymous March 2 9:50 p.m." you have information of any sort, please consider coming forth with details of what you know. I would never ask anyone to reveal themselves on the internet to a whole readership, but in order to effectively use knowledge, someone must be willing to step forward, if necessary. (That means (hopefully, privately and only in case evidence is needed for corroboration) That does take courage. I know because I gave great thought to that when I decided to let this readership know that I AM Connie Smith, that by following the link to hubpages.com, you will see a real picture of me, you have my only real phone number and my primary email address. To top it off, I am definitely known by name and photo to certain key managers of Miami-Jacobs, Dayton campus. From the moment that I wrote this blog, I never ever tried to hide who I was. The folks at Miami-Jacobs do know me. Hi Debbie! Hi Marcia! Hi Faith!
As always, my only goal is to educate the public on the business practices of for-profit colleges -- in particular, Miami-Jacobs -- before anyone else owes $23,000 in debt and has no education to pay for it.
Come on, folks. Let us show Miami-Jacobs what KNOWLEDGE actually means. At any given time, there are MULTIPLE students having issues with this school that affect their futures. It is entirely possible that information that you know may help some young single mother provide a better future for her family by corroborating a story. Share yours with us today.
I am out of the hospital, recuperating. I thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. I may not be 100% recuperated, but I am well enough to take on M-J. Bring it on!

Very funny, Anon, considering that, a little more than one year ago, I had to remind Ms. Marcia Byrd, Financial Aid Director, Dayton Campus, that her documenentation skills were sorely lacking for someone in her position. Do I have documentation to prove that? You betcha!ReplyDelete
Believe this,Miami Jacobs is not dealing with a fool.I have all the documentation I need to support EVERYTHING I say/said.Did you know that both the head (John Ware ) and the investigator (Kim Stein) from the State Bd. of Career Colleges ans Scholls paid the Dayton Campus PN PROGRAM a visit today?Wonder why?,think it is because that program is full of discrepancies,lies,cover-ups,falsifications of attendance records for clinicals, curriculum changes, intimidations by staff towards students, unlawful and unethical dismissals of students?I wonder!!Students, you don't have to be afraid to speak out, there is a governing body that will investigate your complaints, you are paying a huge amount of money for your certificate, diploma or degree, you have a right to complain if you are not getting what you paid for without fear of retaliation by the school, speak up,speak out,do it for yourself and for others that will come behind you.You can make a difference.ReplyDelete
Thank you, Anonymous! I coud not have said that any better myself....this is an interesting development in that you have personal information that the Ohio Board of Career Colleges visited M-J today, in particular, the nursing program. This is my first news of it today, but so, so welcome!ReplyDelete
Hello out, there especially MJCC spies. We know you are watching this site and are afriad because your dirt is coming to light!Yesterday(3/4/10) the PN students at the Dayton Campus were told that they would not be held accountable for obtaining a level 2 on the ATI's,of course, remeber I told you that the Bd. of Career Colleges and Schools also paid them a visit yesterday, well today 3/5/10 (after Kim Stein and John Ware were back in Columbus)Anita Schilling told the class they WOULD be held accountable for obtaining a level 2,imagine that!!!!!I wonder, what will come next?My heart goes out to all the students in this program,I know how difficult this must be for you,but hang in there, things are in the process for your best good, someone out here cares enough to fight for you.Hi Brandy,Shella,Jackie, Faith and Angela!!!ReplyDelete
This is former MJCC employee. One of the most frustrating things for students is the constantly changing rules. Students need to know what is expected of them. The main complaint I received was lack of consistency. Ninety-nine percent of the time I sided with the students but God forbid we told them that. MJCC management does not take criticism well. They will discipline an employee at the drop of a hat.ReplyDelete
Yes, Anonymous, I have heard that the school is harsh to both student AND teacher. I have heard that turnover is high at some locations and that the teachers at the Columbus location are treated like children. I laughed at that last one as I read it at Google MAPS. I wasn't looking for complaints, I was looking at the location LOL and that was the only comment for the location.ReplyDelete
I am PN in troy and will soon graduate, everytime I see someone touring the building thinking about attending I get sick to my stomach. DONT DO IT!! MJCC is a joke in the worst way. Why are some of my calssmates only spending 21G when I am paying 27G for tuition? Everytime you question authority or have an opinion you are threatened with a conduct violation and treated as a child before you are dismissed. As of late we have been told that if we dont like something we can withdraw. WTF is that all about? The new lead PN faculty in Troy is a real piece of work, as well as the student services advisor. RUDE RUDE RUDE their mothers didnt teach these women with ANY manners what so ever. Eric Clark is also a mistake. I think in order to be a 'dean' you should be respected, not happening with him. Since Ive been there I have left in tears on several occasions. I wonder how their investors would feel if they knew what was really going on, I can only pray to one day be the nurse of a MJCC staff member who was inconsiderate, and rude, as most of them are, unfortunately you have to pass the NCLEX to be a nurse and I am going to MJCC so you see my delima! Also, one of the only 2 instructors was recently 'let go' without warning makeing this the 2 or 3rd time we have had a new instructor and cirricilum half way through a quarter without notice or explanation. Clinical sites are also a joke, SUPPOSED to be within a 25 mile radius of the school, DOESNT HAPPEN!!! I had to drive an hour to go to a clinical site, and if it snows your screwed, THEY DONT CARE!!!!!!! Not only that but good luck at these sites, I may as well be giving assessments to bums on the street since I have currently reached the apex of my on site training w/the facility provided, no wonder they cant get clinical sites! ATI- let me just say....OOOOH NO!! I believe that ATI is good, but not as good as what I would learn if I were actually learning in class! Dont switch criteria, lesson plans, laws, rules, instructors, lead faculty, fees, sites....on and on and on....without notice. I have invested time and effort not to mention big bucks for an education that I am teaching myself! I hope they are ready because the students from multiple classes and campuses are pissed and we want what we paid for without attitude, this is going to get ugly real quick!!!ReplyDelete
*Also, one of the only 2 instructors was recently 'let go' without warning * TYPO One(Lively) of the 2-3 (Linn, Swope, Pearson) instructors who actually cared was let go!! In a school like this teachers are important, 3-4 of the PN instructors are AWESOME as well as 1 clinical instructor in particular.KEEP THE GOOD ONES!!!!!!!!!! Heres what I have to say to the rest of the staff that doesn't care...Dont treat me like Im a child, I will be your colleague sooner than you know. I am not your child, or your problem, you are supposed to treat others as you would like to be treated, remember that as I burst your little MJCC bubble!!!ReplyDelete
This is just so sad to read,it really is.What recourse do you have,a lot but you have to be willing to step out there, tell others, write write write write the boards, the attorney general, the ombudsman, anybody you can think of!!These people will help but they have to know what's going on.The boards will not disclose who you are, please write them.Wouldn't you have liked to have known these things before you signed up,wouldn't that have stopped you from going there? Please help, don't let them keep getting away with this, though you are just one person you can make a difference, write the boards now,do what you can to stop another person from signing up,having their hopes shattered and not getting what they were told they was going to get!No one should go through a program and have to hope and pray they pass their boards, isn't that what the whole program is supposed to do,prepare you to sit for your boards with confidence,be able to get an entry level obtain employment knowing that you can do what you were taught to do?This is not true at MJCC.ReplyDelete
Anonymous, you sound like a kindred spirit! I was never a student, but my daughter was. When I saw how they tried to manipulate my daughter and me, the absolute lack of compassion for a situation that they helped cause and a lack of willingness to help right it, I told my daughter that it wasn't just about her anymore. It was about all the young students, many of them young mothers (guaranteed grant money, don't cha know...) who didn't have anyone to turn to. I want every student who signs up to be completely aware of past problems and get answers to how the school is fixing them before signing up. I feel this should be regulated at the state level and that a prospective student should not have to do 80 hours of research to find out enough information about a school to make an educated choice. How about having that information available at the Ohio Board of Career Colleges or would that be too easy of a fix? Thank you so much for commenting and spread the word!ReplyDelete

I am afraid to speak up since I only have a short time left, all I want to do is make it through. Then its on like donkey kong. My parents are not paying for my education as I am an adult. This is all on me. The staff (with exception of a FEW really good RN's) has made it very clear that if we (the students paying out the ass for tuition) dont like the way things are done we can withdraw at any time, therefore proving my point that they dont care. My quarter has been paid for already so they could care less if I complete it or not. I was well aware that the instructors are "not my mother" when I came to this school, yet I am reminded constantly. Thats about the only thing that is constant. Miami Jacobs, changing futures changing lives, aint that the truth! I plan on doing my best and keeping my mouth shut until graduation but now they are saying that if we dont score a level 2 on one ATI in particular, we are automatically failed. I have seen them in action and they will fail us. The NCLEX is on more than one subject so why the urgency to score so highly now? Especially when the cirricilum is not ATI based, the ATI's are expected to be done at home on my time rather than class time. Class time is reserved for reading of power points. Also a 2 hour focused review is expected for each ATI, my problem is that the ATI site has been experiencing issues, kicking us off, or shutting down, not keeping proper records of time spent on them, etc...yet we are penalized for their problems once again. Why am I not taking classes directly through ATI if the ATI is so crutial to my passing the NCLEX? I also know of a classmate (from another campus) who failed her 3rd quarter and is still in class and clinicals yet she HAS received her authorization to sit for boards already, once again MJCC can not keep records. I just dont get it. I feel like I am wasting my time and money and not getting anything out of this but a headache. I guess if I dont like it I can quit. The new lead PN faculty in Troy has already proven herself to be careless, rude, inconsiderate, and completely heartless to the needs of the students,(not to mention the fact that she has a communication deficit) all great qualities of a nurse dont you think! Thanks MJCC your setting a wonderful example, once again!ReplyDelete
The recruiters LIE like dogs there. I was told before signing up that they "send their better students to Wright-Patt for clinicals" LIES! For nursing the clinical sites are as unsanitary as they are unprofessional. I have seen MJCC student MA's in my OBGYN's office doing clinicals, but as for me...I get to be a glorified STNA in my clinical sites. Nothing more than a simple assessment, a BOAT LOAD of paperwork, and sum booty wiping....THANKS MJCC, IM LEARNING A LOT!ReplyDelete
LOL no nurses can go to wright patt They have an agreement with Kettering MC and are using WP med Center as a teaching hosp exclusively........ReplyDelete
If they have an agreement with KMC then why the hell are SPN's all in nursing homes? Their nurses arent getting ANY hosp. experience!ReplyDelete
I definently have talked to WHIO News and we are getting together "IN WRITING" and submitting it to the BBI and News as soon as we get this certificate All hell will break lose! There will be a picketing session July 16th @9am at the Troy Campus Bring your signs and support our cause!ReplyDelete
Oh boy,you guys are great!!!!!First, please keep Connie in your prayers, she had to leave this morning on a 7am flight back to Florida. Her 2yr.old granddaughter was diagnosed yesterday 3/9/10 with a large tumor in the base of her brain, she had to be taken from the E.R. in Clearwater to a children's hospital in Tampa.I have not talked to Connie since she arrived in Florida this morning but as you can understand, she was very upset when I talked to her.She also told me that she is dedicating this fight to get the truth out about Miami Jacobs to her grandchild so to all of you out there KEEP WRITING,I am sending a complaint to the owners of M.J.C.C.(Griffen Investors),the Attorney General's office and the Public Relations Firm that the owners use for their publicity for M.J.C.C.Good job on the upcoming picket, what a blessing,I bet M.J.C.C. spies about died when they read that, and know this, they are reading this blog.Bet you worried now about being given full status for your PN Program aren't you Brandy Cottrell!I think your coverup is about to be uncovered!!!!Apologies for any spelling errors.ReplyDelete
For what it's worth it's Gryphon Investors and the head honcho for Miami-Jacobs is a man by the name of Alan Sussna. He is located at Delta Education in Virginia Beach VA.ReplyDelete
Thank you, Anonymous 3/10/2010 10:05. I called Delta yesterday and spoke with Portia, the assistant to the CEO. After I told her who I was, she wouldn't talk to me anymore and gave me the number of Delta's PR guy. Interestingly enough, she wouldn't even tell me who the CEO was. It appears that Joseph Kennedy, the old CEO and founder of Delta, has left the position....but has he left the building? I get so curious when basic information, like who the CEO is, takes a top secret security clearance to get....AGAIN, WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO HIDE? The PR guy gave me his contact info, but I have yet to get any answers from him to my basic questions. I didn't even ask what they plan to do if MJCC gets their nursing conditional approval yanked....what should be the problem?ReplyDelete
Thank you also, Anon 3/10/2010 9:30 pm, yes, I am NOT giving up the fight and I AM dedicating it to my beautiful 2 year old granddaughter who has a brain tumor. We just found out yesterday and they are operating tomorrow morning at 11:00. Please, everyone, pray for her!
With Lexie AND my mother both in the hospital and my own very recent stay of 8 days and my previous hospitalization of 36 days, nurses have been very much a part of my life. Do I want a well trained nurse taking care of my Mother? My sweet little 2 year old baby girl who has a brain tumor? No need to even answer that question!!!!
A medical training school has the obligation, both morally and professionally, to train their students to be top notch professionals. This is a life and death type of job with plenty of personal liability. If you can't get that top notch education for $23,000 plus dollars, it is a shame. If you all are serious about picketing in July, I will definitely be there. I thought of picketing last year when I got expelled from college for violating the student code of conduct....my problem with that? I wasn't a student! I was the PARENT. That is when the fight became personal and also became about you all, not just my daughter. It was so blatantly obvious that they did not want to deal with an experienced adult and they would do anything to get rid of me. I thought this type of stuff only happened on the soaps!
It is 11:00 am and I want you to know that I am praying for Lexie.ReplyDelete
Thank you so much, Gevena. As of right now (2:36 p.m.) Lexi is still in surgery. Though she went in at 11 am, they did not get started until 12:36, so there is still at least an hour or so to go. Keep on praying, my friend. Check out my "hub" at hubpages.com about Lexi: http://hubpages.com/hub/Pray-For-LexiReplyDelete
to the person that said they are picketing are they forreal cuz if so i will be there with bells on this school ATIs that were never taught is a joke! If we have to pay 33.00 dollars to retake something they havent taught why did we pay 23,000 at the start and when did they decide to come up with these level twos i bet the instuctors cant get levels twos on their best day!ReplyDelete
Anybody out there from the Dayton Campus? When are you guys going to take a stand?Just like us,if we fail, so do you, think about that!!!!!About the picket, are we going to do it at all campus's and do all the students know about it,if not lets get busy and spread the word NOW!!!UNITED WE STAND,DIVIDED WE FALL.ReplyDelete
this is all very scary to me. im currently a student at mjcc, troy campus. im halfway through my first quarter. id say more than half of my class is failing due to insufficient teaching(swope). we practically have to teach ourselves. and on top of that our pharm class is a 5.5 week class, thats alot of information in a very short time. i may have to look into a different school very soon, somewhere where the instructors know how to teach and actually care that the students are learning.ReplyDelete
As a former MJCC staff member I can assure you those involved in a picket line will get an opporunity to sign a conduct violation form. Don't let it deter you though, those things aren't worth the paper they are written on.ReplyDelete
These comments are getting really interesting. We are really starting to get our eyes opened about this school and their business practices. Well, actually, I had my opened last year on March 12, 2009 when I found out that the school had given us incorrect information that caused my daughter to be ineligible for federal loans and grants. When I met Ms. Marcia Byrd, Financial Aid Director(along with Ms. Faith Mitchell, Campus Director)for the first time on March 16, 2009, I really got my eyes opened. Yes, the one year anniversary of my vow to bring not only our case, but others as well, not to court just to be told that we have to go to arbitration -- due to a sneaky arbitration clause in the enrollment agreement -- but to the court of public opinion draws near. The indifference that she showed, the attitude, the disrespect AND the incompetence were shocking. As we left our first meeting, I told my daughter that it wasn't just about her anymore, but about all the students who had nowhere to turn.ReplyDelete
There was nothing in Google search about student complaints there, now there is. I won't rest until everyone realizes the truth about this school.
Unfortunately, I have been a bit distracted by not only my own health this past year (45 total days in the hospital) and right now by my 2 year old baby granddaughter's brain tumor and surgery. In fact, I write this from her hospital room where I am watching over her. She is doing better, but has had several setbacks. I still am praying for and believe that we will get the miracle that we are asking for. Please pray for Lexi Thomas, who I have dedicated this fight with Miami-Jacobs to. For her and other future prospective students, I will not give up the fight to bring this school down.
Yes the dayton campus is here! alotof the problem though with the dayton campus is everybody sees the wrong but most are scared to speak up! these people dont comprehend that being silent when a wrong is beong done by this school will not help they will still fail u just because you are quite doesnt mean if u dont get a level 2 they will pass u you guys better start speaking up now you say well i have to pay for school myself well what difference does that make that doesnt mean roll over like a dog an take it! they dont teach all they want is your money and now that you are getting close to graduation with no more money to give in a minute they are going to jam you rest assured if they dont get you with the level 2 they will get you with the 85% on the exit exam of course these things would have been fine if someone had actually taught it! if they dont get u with that they will make up something and kick u out! one og the highest scoring students at dayton was just kicked out because she protested the level 2 ATIs wasent because she couldnt get it it was because they waited to the end of third term to say it was mandatory now when they never taught it you wouldnt believe the false charges they made up on her more of that story later, you guys better speak up now!where are you dayton campus??Troy??sprinboro??? u talk on this sight but do u actually complain to the school about ATI's, favortism, how rules apply to who they want themto apply to, changes in cirriculm and anything else you can imagine or do u sit back and hope it will all go away or do u think they are not serious about their new "above the bar requirements" that they havent taught?ReplyDelete
stand for something or fall for anything! cudos to everyone willing to stand to those that dont get ready to self learn everything!YOU have to pay loans back whether you graduate or not so why would you let them do anything? stand up for what you NO is right! This school needs to treat people right they are not our mothers (quote) and we are not their kids we deserve to be treated fairly to get what we signed up for nothing more meaning nothing added on at the end that they havent taught! nothing less meaning teachers that teach what they are paid to teachReplyDelete
re:Dayton Camp-jackie ferguson, brandy cottrell shella baker and another teacher(?) I wont name forged j.b. signature for a clinical on 2/5/2010 that she did not attend.ReplyDelete
!!!!Talk about fraud,lies,cover-ups,and you know what, from now on I'm going to start posting names and incidences, watch out faith mitchell,also,d.w. do you remember 10 years ago ,the microsoft deal where your son won?I do,what makes it so bad is that family members of mjcc and all affiliates was supposed not to be eligible because mjcc was one of the sponsers!!!More to come on the wickedness of that staff.Mind you, these are just allegations(smile)That's what they say when they kick you out!!!Two can play that game.
It doesnt surprise me about a PN 101 having trouble w/Swope. I am almost through and having trouble making sence of any of my classes since they are doing anything to keep us too busy to realize were wasting our time. I also am pissed about the fact that the VA clinical site isbeing used by lower PN's since I will graduate sooner and need more experience then wiping ass! We are sreious, they have found a group in Troy that are fed up. We will mind out P's and Q's for now...but just wait, a picket WILL happen, and thats just the tip of the iceburg!ReplyDelete
As a former MJCC staff member I can assure you those involved in a picket line will get an opporunity to sign a conduct violation form. Don't let it deter you though, those things aren't worth the paper they are written on.ReplyDelete
We dont think so either. A conduct violation doesnt scare me, they pass them out as if they were candy! Their the ones who should be scared, its coming to each and every one of them, funny thing is they know it, yet has been unusually quiet...
quite is not the word more like dead silence dayton campus is silent people are always in meetings now funny thing is its not to help the students sprinboro campus dead silence sure troy is the same way when a teacher was asked about lpn students getting level 2 and it hadent been taught no response was given when the administrator was asked if atis were so important why come they were not in our cirriculm other than 10% student was told the state board of nursing wouldnt allow it so does the state board no they are holding every one accountable for a level 2? Papers need to start flying to the board because when they fail you and not let you graduate it will be to late! surgical tech is having problems to imagine that teachers not teaching getting your money then failing you in the endReplyDelete
It is heating up and it well should. For those of you that failed to get a Level 2 in the Dayton Campus PN Program 4th term, could it be because when you had a chance to do right by one of your sister's you didn't?You thought it would be ok for you didn't you,you believed the lies jackie and brandy told you didn't you, well welcome to what happens when you don't do what's right, staff cares nothing about you,why should they, they got your money now so if you don't make it you don't make it.You know,I feel sorry for you,if you don't stand for something you will fall for anything and it seem's like you have. You better start writing/faxing to the board(Kim Stein)now because after the 18th it will be too late for you, that's when m.j.c.c. is to be recertified to continue to do to others as they have done to you.If you do nothing(again) don't say you wasn't warned, again.ReplyDelete
Please, Anonymous (March 15, 7:40pm), let us not hurl accusations against one another, but encourage the ones who were pressured to make false allegations against a fellow student to retract those allegations. I know that student and there is no way that those accusations will ever stand up in court. At some point and time, as that student HAS retained an attorney, you all will be required to give oath that you are telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. If you cannot honestly do that due to pressure from the school, please come forward and tell the truth now. Another student's future is at stake, as well as honor. Because this student has an honorable reputation in the community, ultimately, it is YOUR reputation that will suffer by either being branded a liar in public court when others come forth with the truth or risk your own honor when you look yourself in the mirror by giving false testimony in a court of law.ReplyDelete
If you are a regular member and attendee of a church, like the student at Miami-Jacobs who has suffered from false allegations against her, you know the bible has cautioned also again bearing false witness. Step forward and show your courage to help a former fellow student who not only had the courage to stand up for herself, but had the courage to stand up for all of you. Those who agreed to stand by the school and make false accusations should be ashamed. However, it is NOT too late to right a wrong. Step forward. You may contact me at 727-638-2178 or at Connie997@aol.com
I, too had false allegations made against me by the school. In a letter, which I will publish as soon as I get out of the hospital, I was accused of violating the "student code of conduct," (though I am NOT even a student, I was the parent!)accused of using profanity, embarassing my daughter (who was present and NEVER complained to me of it) among other things I cannot remember. I was told to "cease and desist" and that I was not allowed to step foot on the campus or contact any personnel at the school. I saw it for what it was, which is the same that I see this: it is a concentrated effort to eliminate those who are NOT intimidated by their tactics. It is the very reason that I started this blog and the very reason that I vowed to educate the public about this school and the very reason that this school is going down! Do you want to be on the Titantic?
I also had a sutdent conduct violation that was a complete lie and forced to sign. I can't talk about it now because I will be terminated but when I graduate Miami jacobs will be sorry they ever lied, decieved and tortured myself. A lot of truth will come out I have a "HUGE" mouth and am more than willing to use it and expose Miami Jacobs for ythe horrible school it is. I've been collecting stories from students at Miami Jacobs and Plan to go to WHIO with all of these stories. who knows maybe we can get someone to publish it in a book or something. Trust me Miami Jacobs is going to be so SORRY!! Just Can't wait and we are definently picketing I plan to put adds out everywhere and anywhere and telling everyone and also inviting all the news channels. It's going down in daytons history.ReplyDelete
Thank-you Connie,I am the student false allegations were made against. It's hard for the ones in schol at this time, they are afraid they will be put out and they are so close to graduating.Anything is likely with this school.I have submitted documents to so many agencies and people about this school, believe me,something is going to happen, too many people now know about this school and their strong-arm tactics, including their real owners.ReplyDelete
Today proved to be another real treat for MJCC students. It must be nice to be able to show a complete lack of respect for authority as well as your students and know that your job will be fine. Dont discount me, I will be your peer very soon and you never know when we will meet again!ReplyDelete
It is one year to the day that I met Ms. Marcia Byrd, Financial Aid Director, and Ms.Faith Mitchell, Campus Director. I figured that it would take me a year or so for people to find me. It really has taken that long to heat up, so everything is going according to plan.ReplyDelete
We have people who have their own plans to expose the school and this is great. When i set out to expose this school one year ago TODAY, it was about all of YOU. When I think of you all getting ripped off, not getting the proper education so that you can compete with students from other schools, that some of these programs at MJCC do not have respect in many of the workplaces that you need to apply to, I have a hard time waiting to see this go down. Knowing that each week, they are signing up new inexperienced students, who so often are young mothers trying to make a better life for their children, I really could go down to the campus and violate the student code of conduct.
Alone, we have nothing. Together, we have a pattern of abuse of students, fabricated evidence, intimidation, proof of poor teachers, lack of proper clinicals in more than one program and proof that if you buck the system, you will get an "overnight" letter from Faith Mitchell asking you not to return to campus.
I picked up on all of this right away. I did vow to help you all. By providing this forum for us to communicate with each other, see that we are not alone, I have done much of what I set out to do -- try our case in the court of public opinion. That is the one place where we can not be silenced. The internet has given us a voice and we choose to use it. Keep it up, people. Let your fellow students know about this site. Give us your story, whether here in print or to me at my email address. Your name, email address, etc., is confidential unless you say otherwise. Again, I AM Connie Smith. I am NOT hiding behind an internet alias. I have given the email address of Connie997@aol.com that I have had since getting the internet in 1997. I have given out my personal cell phone number, 727-638-2178, which is the only phone I have. I have actually met in person with a student. I have spent hours on the phone with several students. These people know that I can be trusted to maintain confidentiality. I am not afraid of this school. In fact, they ARE afraid. That is because I am not intimidated.
I find it very interesting that Delta Career Education Corporation's Mr. Shank, a PR person, was nice enough to email me his information so that I could contact him, but has never contacted me back with the answers to my questions. Why is it a big secret WHO the CEO of Delta is? Of course, I gave him this website and also my other one at hubpages.com, where I have several articles that feature MJCC, Delta and Gryphon Investors. Hmmm.....Mr. Shank, where are you?
By the way, folks, don't forget to wish me a Happy Anniversary on my one year quest with Miami-Jacobs. Considering that I have been sick much of the time, things are starting to move along! I will not give up! As one of the students said, I have now dedicated my fight to my baby granddaughter, Lexi, who is fighting for her life after having brain surgery to extract a tumor from her brain stem. As I am expecting a miracle, I do not want this type of school around when Lexi grows up to prey on her and mess up her future and her credit. Let us work together to bring this school down!
Happy anniversary on your quest, mine started 2/8/2010 but I imagine it will probably go on for a little while.Hello former classmates, my name is Gevena,my email address is email@example.com and I to am not afraid to id myself.Hello m.j.c.c. PN Program staff, you will definetly be hearing from me very soon!!!!For the current students @this school I know what you are going thru, been there done that,I encourage all of you to keep the faith,do the best you can and don't sell each other out,in the final scheme of things you have to live with you and what goes around comes around or better said,"you reap what you sow".Stick together because m.j.c.c. look for the weak links and I can tell you, they use it,once they have used you,you to will be cast aside.I have never seen such wickedness in a place of "higher learning"in my life,I'm serious when I say this, but I also know this for a fact,"Greater is He who is in me than he that is in the world".ReplyDelete
I am still "waiteing" on the story about Darlene. Thanks.ReplyDelete
did anybody here anything about the ohio board of nursing being there and what happens if you dont get a level two on each and every test?ReplyDelete
For anonymous 3/19/10/@2:50pm,no one has heard anything yet that I know of but it's going to be very interesting to hear what the board does especially with all the complaints sent to them about this school and there has been a lot! Keep writing to the board, that's the only way to stop miami jacobs and we all know they hate for us to write the boards ,why, because they know they are liars and what they are doing is illegal so KEEP WRITING TO THE BOARDS.Change is coming but we all have to do our part.ReplyDelete
remember these names:ReplyDelete
They are just as infamous as Darlene Waite.
I am often asked to describe those three individuals above in case you meet them. I will try. Here goes:ReplyDelete
Mike Montgomery- picture a 410 pound body with a head sitting on top the size of a grapefruit.
Joanie Krein- think blonde Ava Braun
Faith Daniels- she is the one with the marionette strings hanging from her arms with Darlene controlling the movements.
I always knew the school would get it and looks like it's happening now, thank you Jesus! For thise of you who think they won't enforce level 2 and 85% on the exit exam, think again,mj knows there are going to be lawsuits so the more of you they fail the less people eligible to participate in the lawsuit, think about that!!!Better lay in them now while the heat is on,protest ,write & call the boards, you can win but it's going to take a concentrated effort from all of you.If you don't ,welllllllllll. This is one of the best day's of my life, you reap what you sow,yes indeed.ReplyDelete
It should say "those of you" not thise.I do know how to spell, actually I'm a very good speller,I was just so excited and was typing really fast!ReplyDelete
It should say"those of you" not THISE.I am really vey good at spelling,I was just so excited and was typing really fast.ReplyDelete
Now you need to take a real good look at financial aid,you may be in for a very unpleasant surprise when it's time to pay it back.ReplyDelete
as a former MA student, Mjcc is a JOKE. they lie to you from day one!!!!!! i just recently quit because none of my credits transfer, you pay way to much to go there. get out why you can dont wait till its to late. I was supposed to graduate in june but i failed one class because i missed 4 days of school when my grandpa had hear surgry. They have no compassion!ReplyDelete
GOOD NEWS 12 MONTH PN STUDENTS!!!!!M.J.C.C. cannot hold you to level 2's,want to know why?I know you do,here is why, look on the Ohio Bd.of Nursing's site, find the letter Lisa posted abouther findings, now look at the duration of the program,it's 50 WEEKS,the 12 month program is 40 WEEKS,once again mj lied to the board and that's why Lisa was confused,mj submitted the handbook or whatever for the 15 month program, they cannot hold you all to that!!!Now my friend, print it out ,take it to Brandy or Faith and show it to them, then start your questions and watch them sqirm like the weasels they are.Thank you all for the information you keep finding,it is for your best good, may you complete this course, graduate, pass the boards and then get Brandy,Faith and Jackie as patients!!ReplyDelete
My daughter is a current PN student. I specifically asked Jennifer Kaston (assist. Dean, Dayton Campus)in February if MJ was having issues with their accreditation. I was told not to worry everything was fine and that they even had just received a preliminary ok for an RN program.ReplyDelete
I took her word and allowed my daughter to become a student. Now this. Even though it hasn't been that long since she started, she still feels stuck.
She also comes home with horror stories regarding how her Pharm teacher is instructing the class. I am so livid. She and I are paying quite a bit of money for her education and I expect that the teachers are competent. Not have a teacher that admits she got "stuck" teaching the class and that nobody wants to teach the class and said she has ADD and all other kinds of unprofessional conduct.
At this point, I feel I have to be anonymous, to protect my daughter. I do have an ace up my sleeve and am planning on using it to help our cause. I will continue to monitor this site as well as the hubs and I will keep you posted.
Your granddaughter is in my prayers!
this is long overdue!im sure people will start exposing them for who they trully are so maybe the joke wont be one the students maybe for once it will be one them stick together make sure of that for the backstabbers be very careful of them right now remember they actually do have students on their side (very few probably 2 out of the 3000 but never forget when someone shows you who they are believe it the people that you no want the same things you want are they people to stick with! miami jacobs will fall make sure you dont fall with them its not just the lpn program that needs to come to and end its the whole school!Dont no about the ATIs but what i have heard and listened to today they will and are planning on taking you guys all the way out with them if you dont believe that you might as well drop out now they just told surgical tech about a new test that you have to pass the teacher said hardly anyone passes but if they dont pass they dont graduate hmm! sounds like the same thing they are coming for you because looks like they have a slew of lawsuits coming they dont need yoursReplyDelete
Please check out my newest post on Miami-Jacobs at http://www.whyitmatters.org/2010/03/miami-jacobs-career-college-and-some.htmlReplyDelete
If we all work together, we can make the changes that need making. Let's do it!
Hummm... not sure what to think about all this. Very interesting comments. The problem with this is that the teachers who really give a damn can't get the students to concentrate on anything but this now because their all worried! I know it is everyones right to free speech but it really isn't helping those of us who WANT to TEACH and make a difference. I am not on any side I just want to do my job the way it is suppose to be done.ReplyDelete
The CEO of Delta is Alan Sussna. Also, they plan on closing more campuses, and there are rumors that they are trying to sell some of the schools.ReplyDelete
It is very nice to find out that there are teachers at the school who give a damn. I do believe that as I have spoken to one or two. I strongly disagree that I - and others here or elsewhere -- who leave us with more knowledge about this school, are not helping the students. In fact, I initiated this blog so that, just like you, I could educate the students of Miami-Jacobs. Even more importantly, I wanted to educate PROSPECTIVE students so that they could make an INFORMED DECISION on whether they wanted to spend $22,000 of their future hard-earned dollars on a school who is known for shady business practices, sub-par programs and an intimidating atmosphere for the students, before they made the mistake of enrolling.ReplyDelete
If your job was able to be done the way it is supposed to be done, then the Ohio Board of Nursing would not even be considering yanking a much needed Practical Nursing program from the state when we have a nursing shortage. For that, you can not blame ME. You need to put the blame squarely where it belongs....within the administration of the school.
In fact, according to a source, the Practical Nursing program went through TWO Program Directors before the program even signed up the first student. The first director, a licensed RN, (hired March 2006) as required by the board to oversee the program, quit after mail addressed to her by the board was intercepted AND answered by then Campus Director, Joannie Krein (currently at the Columbus branch). Ms. Krein did NOT inform the board that it was she answering some questions that the board had about the program, but allowed the recipient to believe that the mail was answered by the Program Director. It was discovered when the board needed additional clarification and contacted the program director by phone. According to the source, the director quit within the hour. After all, it was HER nursing license (as the director)that was being used to develop the program. Intercepting mail and answering as if you are the recipient is called FRAUD, showing that fraudulent activity is a long term pattern at this school.
I am sorry that you do not have the vision to see how the Ohio Board of Nursing's decision affects the students and why they are so worried about it. Indeed, it affects you also. WHEN -- and it will happen -- you need to find another place of employment, how is the fact that you taught a sub-par program (that was SO BAD it was recommended for closure) going to affect your future chances of employment as a nursing program teacher? How is being TAUGHT a sub-par program going to affect your students' chances of future employment?
Kind of funny the " very new director" of Career Services, posted on his face book about the Nursing Program, he posted what was on WHIO and guess what HE GOT FIRED. That's right shit canned by the college. Man that place cracks me up. Someone that just graduated had to pay extra money out of her pocket when she graduated for some 'extra' fees they could not explain or they were not going to give her, her diploma. That is not the first time I have heard about this mysterious fee to pay to get your diploma. They steal from their students, and they are going to be facing a class action law suit, just wait.ReplyDelete
Well they need to fire Brandy Cottrell,Jackie Ferguson,Faith( can you believe faith is her name, shame on you Faith) Mitchell,Angela Martin(since she got promoted the real her came out and it isn't good)Marcia Byrd (who knows practically nothing about financial aid laws and regulations)and ladies and gentlemen the star of the whole show,Darlene Waite(we are waiting for you to leave).Lets hear from Dayton,Springboro and Troy.Didn't I tell you all that something big was about to happen, bet you didn't believe me then but I bet you do now!!I say to you all, keep complaining, keep writing the boards,MJCC is on their way out and good riddance!!ReplyDelete
If this all weren't so pathetic, it would be amusing. Really, one cannot help but laugh a bit as we watch this comedy of errors unfold. Unfortunately, since I have been expelled from the school for violating the student code of conduct (and again, I wasn't the student, I was the PARENT), I cannot come down and see these jokers for myself. I only know Faith and Marcia. Still, picturing them scrambling around trying to hide their stupidity and huddled in meetings trying to stop this tide, well, just picture it folks! LOL Together, we are unstoppable, folks. Keep these good stories coming.ReplyDelete
I am especially interested in the one about the new Career Services Director who got fired for posting on Facebook. LOL It just keeps getting better and better. I would love to hear that whole story.
part of the problem with MJCC taking advantage of students' money is that they let people in who can't even pass the reading portion of the entrance exam. It's not that hard. but these people need remediation for basic reading and math skills, and they are expected to jump into a fast paced program?ReplyDelete
MJCC is all self-study pretty much, if you want to learn anything. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but a lot of the jilted students are people who didn't want to study on their own time. That's just how college goes. My experience so far has been an extremely negative one, but in comparison to a university, I have had a lot more one on one time with the faculty (even though a lot of them have no ide awhat they're doing)
I also don't understand why people are saying Brandi Cottrell needs to be fired when she JUST jumped into her role. She's an awesome lady who I firmly believe actually cares that the school produces good nurses.
There is just way too much motivation of money from the administration on the business side of the school to really understand what nursing is about. If anything, they need to be fired. The career advocates need to be lynched. They're just awful glorified sales people who will lie to you to get you to sign up.
Let me think, why does Brandy(pn administrator) need to be fired? For one she started out bad with the board of nursing by not submitting her position ,as clearly stated and not a new board rule, she just continues doing what those that preceeded her was doing so how can that be good for us,does not that tell you something about her character? Two,she lies to the students(think ati, clinicals) and I know for a fact she has not "investigated "a student filed complaint(in writing)concerning fraudelent staff practices or discriminatory threats(think 3 K'S)I could go on and on about this woman(and I use the term loosely)but I think you get the picture,do not for one minute think she is for us,she is not!!I personally think Faith Mitchell(everytime I write her name I pause, faith, her parents must be awfully disappointed in her "faith" or lack thereof)should just clean house in the pn staff dept and start anew, that would eliminate a big problemReplyDelete
brandy cottrell cares?Awesome? you have had alot of one on one time with the faculty? you must be one of their spies!! obviously you missed the board of nursings website about all the false documentation furthmore self study might be good but if you are paying 23,000 dollars you should be taught thats the bottom line and how would you no who needs remediation is that what the teachers who dont teach and the "awesome brandy" tell you when you are spending one on one time? its not just the business side of school it is the whole lpn program if there are students that need to be taught the "lpn program" new that when they first started they didnt get them out of their immediately why because they wanted there money you also said they couldnt pass the basic test how would you no? Seems like your on the wrong side p.s. Brandy is NOT new yea new to the position not to the program and the Board came on Her watch if you spend so much one on one time you would no that!ReplyDelete
Yea we have people in are class who feel these instuctors, Brandy ,are awesome! These are the students who backstabb us students every chance they get just a few but you are right they are the spies for the facility! They tell the teachers everything they no every chance they get! They have said and made false accusations against other students hoping to get these students thrown out or failed! for the most part some students will stick together but you always have the few stay away from that kind they will throw you under the bus every chance they get it should tell! you something if someone says the administrator is "awesome" what a joke! Or that they spend alot of one on one time with the faculty but then critize them for not knowing what they are doing if you spend so much one on one time with them why dont you tell them instead of us they dont know what they are doing seems like you backstabb the students and faculty!Sorry to throw accusations of backstabbing thats just the way it sounds to me anyway GO BOARD OF NURSING!ReplyDelete
Here is the plan,we have to keep the momentum going, one of the principals of Gryphon Investors is Alex Earls 415-217-7405 e-mail address is firstname.lastname@example.org.When you go to their site you will see a list of names,e-mail addresses and telephone numbers for all the important people. For those that don't know,Gryphon Investors are the OWNERS of mjcc and I guarantee you they don't know about all the mess going on with one of their investments!Everybody needs to contact them, they will listen wouldn't you if one of your extremely profitable investments was in the news for fraudelent practices?I'm going to figure out a way to attach this site, the newspapers write up and the other site(I call it why it matters part 2)the boards information straight from their site and all of our comments and send it to them!!If I can't figure out how to e-mail the info, well I will just have to do it the old fashioned way,I will mail everything. How do you like that Faith and Darlene? Gryphon Investors need to know what you all are doing and I intend to see that they do and I will do this soon, actually I'm going to start on it in the morning,it's late now and I'm tired but it will be done by this Friday. Is anybody out there with me on this,if so write them, the more the merrier.ReplyDelete
Students of M.J.C.C. PN Program!!!What happens if you don't get a level 2,you fail the course, right?Well that means you are set back one quarter which your financial aid WILL NOT COVER,you have used all your aid,now let's think about this, how are you going to cover the $5000.00 plus for an extra quarter? This is were they get you and they know it,Tuition Options may loan you the money but probably not because you will need a co-signer and who do you know will co-sign for you for over $5000.00?Check it out and let us know,I know I'm right,In addition,M.J.C.C. is violating federal laws concerning lending practices,if you receive federal loans and M.J.C.C, does, then an institution cannot favor a student loan lender, now tell me something, why is Tuition Options the only lender other than Sallie Mae,actually they are not a lender they are the collection agency for M.J.C.C.That's right you are paying M.J.C.C. AND IT IS DISGUISED BY Tuition Options, wonder why they don't accept or deal with any other student loan lenders?OK,time to write the attorney general and the federal government because this is illegal!!!ReplyDelete
Let's all quit talking about it and do something! These stories you all have told are a nightmare. I can't believe this is happening with OUR federal tax dollars. I wonder what kind of luxury car Darlene Waite drives or million dollar home she lives in???ReplyDelete
I am currently a PN student at the troy campus. Wow do we have our hands full here!! It was great to read about MJ's problems on the internet last week. It was just as bad having the dean lie to us in person about this week. The only thing I want is an education. Period, but instead I get to have an instructor one day and none the next. I get to have an insane (and I'm puting that nicely!) Nursing Director (miss Eva), berate people right in front of everyone. That in itself is just so wrong. My class is very strict. You can't miss school at all! No problem for me though because I have worked for several years and you can't miss work either. I know how bad of a shadow MJ looms over me but I will not let it slow me down. I am learning as much as possible at my clinical site. I jump at the chance to do any procedure that is allowed. I have inserted catheters, given insulin shots, and passed meds. (and yes I have done a med card for everything I have passed) I work hard and study alot. I will pass, I just hope I'm allowed to take the NECLEX!!ReplyDelete
Actually, she has a beautiful 4,000 square foot home out in a very nice area of Kettering. She lives there with her long time live-in boyfriend. From 2000 to 2005, he owned a $190,000 apartment building at 1808 Shroyer Road, which was foreclosed on in 2005. Ms. Waite is listed as a co-defendant in that mortgage foreclosure. To see what I think about foreclosing on property when you can afford to pay for it, read this: http://www.whyitmatters.org/2009/04/wheres-legislator-when-you-need-one.htmlReplyDelete
Yes, folks, walking away from a mortgage when you can afford to pay for it is nothing short of legalized bank robbery (and one of the problems with our system today). I personally spent every penny I had in 2007 paying the mortgage on my own personal, but modest 1,500 square foot home until it sold. When it did sell, I was in the hole financially. Still, I never, ever considered foreclosure even though I watched the value plummet over $35,000 in the six month period that it was on the market until the sale closed.
While living in the lap of luxury at a fine address and bringing home a fine salary (at least Darlene has, who has been steadily employed for close to 30 years with MJCC, these parasites of society put a strain on our financial system by walking away from a property that they could afford to pay for. This is not the type of principles that our country has been built upon. It has been built by hard working folks who pay what they owe. Of course, when it comes to the hard working students at MJCC, Ms. Waite does NOT cut them a break when they cannot afford to pay --what would be to Darlene who lives in a $350,000 home -- piddly amounts to MJCC of $800 to $1,500....instead, these students are taken to court, whereupon the court files a judgement lien against the student and as a result, MJCC has been named in several foreclosures of $30 - $100,000 homes with MJCC liens on them. Pathetic!
Of course, all of this is public record....just in case someone wants to accuse me of twisting the truth, and yes, as always, I can prove it.
Oh my goodness, what an excellent researcher you are,I bet Darlene and Faith are really nervous by now, wish I had a talent for digging out stuff about people that they don't want you to know,I would put it on the news, really I would.I agree with anon.4/1/10 12:43pm,let us do something, together we can make it happen.Let us all call Lisa Emrich at the nursing bd,call or e-mail Gryphon Investors,Kim Stein at the bd.of career colleges and schools and the attorney general. This is just a good place to start,I know of several others that are already writing these people and I'm sure you will be updated.I have been doing a lot of calling,I'm doing my part, are you? This affects more than you think.ReplyDelete
Wow, thank you so much for the great compliment. As I said just the other day on the comment section of my other article: Miami-Jacobs and Some Questiionable Business Practices, when someone told me I need to get a life, I LOVE to do research. http://www.whyitmatters.org/2010/03/miami-jacobs-career-college-and-some.htmlReplyDelete
This is all very old stuff that I learned last year, but you never know when you will need to trot out old research. I sure wish this site was more flexible so I could have posted the picture of her house. Out of the kindness of my heart, I did not publish her address or her boyfriend's name, but it is very much a matter of public record and easily found at 3 or 4 places in a matter of minutes. The home pic is from the "Street View" of Google Maps.
I have one of those "banker's boxes" just bulging with research that I did on this school last year. I used 5 print cartridges in the the first 3 weeks of my research last year.
I never had the questionable pleasure of meeting Darlene, as I got expelled from the school before she was ever in the building....However, I do hope Faith Mitchell, who sent me that nasty, nasty "overnight" letter telling me that I, a PARENT, violated the "Student Code of Conduct" and that my daughter, an "independent student" had to deal with the school on her own, enjoys my efforts. I guess that, by now, Faith wishes that she had dealt with the situation somewhat differently. My case in the "Court of Public Opinion" is going quite well. Had I actually been a student and had to go to arbitration like those poor 7 Surgical Tech students, who get NO publicity, I sure wouldn't be this far along in my cause. Of course, the 7 students, rightly, are looking for some compensation. I solved my daughter's problem so we do not have a basis for a lawsuit. Of course, the mental anguish that I suffered at the hands of these incompetents when I thought that my grandson's future was in jeopardy, well...let's just say, that ranks right up there with spilled Mickey D's coffee in terms of my anguish, LOL. (I can laugh about it now, but I sure couldn't THEN).
Look, we do all need to work together to bring this school to its knees. I appreciate the phone calls from everyone and again, my phone number is 727-638-2178. I have learned so much and have several additional articles in the works because of it.
I dont think i have ever wanted to be apart of something so bad in my life i have dealt with many things good and bad but this has to be high on the list of bad things i will not rest until they are exposed for who they are evil!!! I will start writing letters and calling people to since i have to suffer at this school pay a tremendous amount of money to a school that could care less if i become a lpn or not!I have had nothing but bad experiences to the person that sad Mrs Bennetta Moore-Milliner was the only thing they had going for them thats the truth!!! Thats the only thing the students have to bad she isnt running it because the people that are are out to get every campus it seems!ReplyDelete
Well once again mjcc made the 6:00 news!!!I saw it on channel 7 today and it probably ran on the other channels.Today(4/2/10) they reviewed the story about the lpn program but they also brought up those 7 surg tech students that are suing!Keep up the good work, keep the pressure on,its working, dont tell me we cant make a difference.Hello Darlene and Faith.ReplyDelete
Ex-Miami Jacobs employee. First of all, nice job on your Darlene expose. The only comment I have about contacting Gryphon, the only thing they care about is profit, period. Serving the students is not a priority with them. Complaints should be directed to Delta. They at least act like they care. MJCC has some very important inspections looming, it could be interesting.......ReplyDelete
Thanks for the compliment,Anon. I do not think Delta cares either. At least, no one contacted me when I sent them info last year, 50 pages of it lol...maybe they are still reading it....anyway, check back. We are finding out new and interesting things all the time.ReplyDelete
BTW, to Anonymous April 1, 10:18 pm, all of us - who have been either ripped off, lied to, lied about and had their characters ripped to shreds in the name of the almighty dollar -- we are all a part of it. I am sure that we all wish that we were still the innocents that we were when we first stepped foot inside the school, but the next best thing is exposing this school to the world.ReplyDelete
I was a student at M-J in the early 1980s. I canReplyDelete
tell you Ms. Waite didn't corrupt a fine old
institution. Her predecessors Charles Campbell
& Valerie Doll were every bit as unsavory as she
seems to be. Maybe more so. I could tell you a story so outrageous you might not believe it.
Perhaps I'll call you up and we'll see if you
do. I wish you luck in your efforts.
Miami-Jacobs may have been a decent school
once, but it's long since become a parasite
on the community.
Please call her,we all want to know as much as we can,if for no other reason to shame her( darlene waite),that is,if she can be shamed,i don't know, them are some pretty shameless people.ReplyDelete
So sorry you all are having a hard time with the school. The entire time I was there, I had nothing but pleasant experiences. Of course, I wasn't involved with the nursing program. As for the teachers, mine were all well qualified for the positions and had experience in their field. I did enjoy my time at MJCC and hate to see that you all were so dissatisfied with things going on. I don't know about the PN's, ST's, RT's, or MA's, but my credits transfer to a university. Sorry about your experiences and I hope you all get things worked out, whatever you do. I am not a spy, just dissappointed that you all had such bad experiences with the school. I wish you luck.ReplyDelete
Curious as to what universities that your credits transfer to, Anon, as well as what program you completed....please enlighten us on this. While we are glad you got the education you paid for, as you can see, many are not getting theirs.ReplyDelete
Let me guess...MMMMMMMM I'm getting a signal. I say DeVry or Wilberforce.............ReplyDelete
I will just tell you I didn't pick a medical field...And NO I am not attending Wilberforce or DeVry. My credits transfer to Urbana. I also know someone whose credits transfer to a university in Atlanta. You really have to do your homework folks. The school itself gives you a list of places they have reserved for graduates to continue their education. You don't have to use these choices, but you can.ReplyDelete
From what I have noticed so far, a lot of people on here are either disgruntled students, graduates, or former employees. My guess is those people didn't make the effort to succeed. You are given every opportunity to succeed. Even after graduation, you can return to the school to have them assist you in finding a job. You have to apply yourself and take the first step to be successful. You had to come to the college to get enrolled, you have to do the homework and tests to receive a good grade, you have to ask for help if you are faltering, and you have to go to carrer services and pick up the books that list what jobs are hiring to apply. You have to be responsible for your own success. You are the one who went to college, make the most out of it.
It is terrible that the things people are saying are hurting all the students and staff collectively just because a handfull of students didn't get their way. I am sorry, but if you are dissatisfied with what they are doing, you have to be responsible enough to see that and withdraw. Come on people. Be responsible about your future and education. If you don't like MJCC, move on. Don't sit there and trash it, ruining it for everyone who isn't having problems.
FYI: I am not a staff or faculty member, I am a satisfied graduate. I loved the school and would recommend this school to anyone. Connie, I am sure your daughter is an adult and can make decisions for herself. But if you both are so dissatisfied with MJCC, why not withdraw her before you accrue more debt? I couldn't remember if you said she is still a current student or not. If she is a current student, withdraw her and enroll her elsewhere. All colleges and universities have issues with all things, including accreditation, so I think you might be hard pressed to find a place you will be completely satisfied with.
Again, I don't wish to cause any ill will with all of you, but this is my oppinion. I didn't think it would be right to just let the negative persons have a say.
Nice comments Darlene.ReplyDelete
Boy you are ignorant and shallow to think I am Darlene, Anonymous April 7 4:53pm. Like I said in the post before...I am a satisfied graduate of the school. Just because I can elequently type and convey a message does not mean I am her. Besides...I doubt she is 30yrs old. I chose to not put my name on here because I did not want to get negative things on my facebook account. But if it makes you feel a little more at ease that I am not her, I have posted my initals for you as a name. If you still choose to not believe me it will just further show your ignorance. I was trained to deal with rude people like you 9 years ago and spent 4 years of my life dealing with people like you. Do yourself and others a favor, grow up.ReplyDelete
Now now, let's not name call each other, this is not what this site is about.it's a forum for us to tell others about our experiences at mjcc, while your's may not have been bad as you can read the majority of people have had really bad experiences with them, that's not slander it is a fact. You said we could just move on,not that easy to do as we owe, whether we continue or not, a great deal of money for the loans we have taken out and if you did complete your program you know those loans max you out,so where would the money come from to go else where? As for not getting our way, come on now, surely you don't think all these post are wriiten by a bunch of lazy, spoiled kids,I am over 40 years old and I can tell you that I want to finish what I started but I can assure you the staff makes that dream really hard to achieve. As far as not making the effort to succeed,I spend most nights studying until the wee hours of the am,my husband is neglected because school must come first,I live, eat and dream mjcc,I have no social life, can't talk too long on the phone, can't go on vacation, don't sleep well wondering about what they will do next to hurt us.I personally know a student that was put out on totally false allegations by the pn administrator, faith mitchell and angela martin.I wonder where she is now and how she is doing.I actually cried about the way they did her,but make no mistake about this,if she decides to sue and I find out about it I'm going to get in touch with her and offer my help! .This school is really a bad school and I applaud all those that are working so hard to bring them down.I also believe you are mislead,at the least misinformed about present day mjcc.If this school is such a good school then you tell me why the nursing board is trying to shut them down? There reasons have nothing to do with the students and everything to do with the fraudelent practices and other unprofessional behaviours of staff.Did not you read the site(The Ohio Bd. Of Nursing) and the local newspapers?ReplyDelete
I did read the papers and I know for a fact that they sling mud just to get people to read it and to have something to write about....I know first hand. I don't believe everything that is said on the news or in the papers...You learn if it bleeds it leads. I have learned to laugh at anything I see on the news. They make it sound so horrible but if you actually listen to what they are saying, it is something totally different. I am sure that there is misinformation that is flung around everywhere, but to complain about it on a site and not talk to the proper channels...gets you nowhere. Sorry, but I am sure most of the Annonymous posts are repeat posters...It looks like a lot of people, when in fact, it is the same ones over and over. Sorry your time management skills aren't any better than what they are. I went to school full time and worked full time while trying to juggle a family life, social life, and activities outside of the school. Look, I owe money too, but did you not understand the fact you have 6 months deferment to start paying on those loans? I am sure that if you contacted your provider and notified them you are changing schools, your deferment will continue. It's just like going on with your education. When you transfer, deferment rolls over until you finish the next school and so on if you choose to continue. You know, the school might just be better off if they closed the whole 3rd street building down and used it for something useful, since the nurses seem to not be able to get along and understand you have to ride the waves to get to the island. OSU just got their teachers education credentials revoked, but you don't see that on the news.ReplyDelete
Take the proper channels to fix the problem instead of moaning about it on a site and letting others do the work for you. Sorry, but I think that you all would be better off if you did it the right way.
Again, sorry about your misfortune and your distress. Hope things work better with another school, should you choose to continue with your field. Oh yeah, and I wasn't name calling, I was pointing out the obvious, because if the other Annonymous had taken the time to read the big FYI that I put on there, they wouldn't have made that inaccurate observation.
I'll continue to follow this blog, but I am done saying my peace. Be happy to be unhappy if you chose to not go elsewhere. I have given you the best advice I can, if you choose to not do the right things, enjoy your stay at MJCC and leave the rest of the school alone. No one can change your future but you, because your success is what you choose to make it. Thank you and good bye all. I think I have caused enough damage. Hopefully it all has sunk in.
BOTTOM LINE: This is a great site that states facts. The comments written after are opinion, however I am a Massage Therapy graduate and agree 100% with the negativity that thrives a MJCC. They lie when you sign up and tell you your previous schooling will transfer and that you cantranfer to a fur year school (most ALL do not). They lie and say you will only have to be there a few Saturdays to get clinicals in (I was going 6 days a week for numerous hours per day). They only hire "teachers" for 6 weeks at time (therefore you get those who are looking for part time work and NOT qualified). I had numerous "teachers" who admitted they were underqualified, some quit after the first few days, or they would have other staff at MJCC "teach" us until they could find someone else. We were given a "board review" class and several questions were wrong, contained wrong information, gave incorrect answers. This was pointed out with page numbers to correct them (THE SAME EXACT TESTS WERE GIVEN TO THE NEXT GROUP OF STUDENTS WITH NO CHANGES MADE.) This is a business NOT a school. DO NOT GO TO MJCC!!!!ReplyDelete
To Anonymous who had such a great experience at MJCC: Again, to anyone who had such a good experience, I am very happy about that. You admit that your field is not health related. Instead of calling the students who are posting here names like lazy, negative and rude, put yourself in their shoes. What IF your program had been sub-par? What IF the LIVES of other people possibly hinge on the quality of your professional training -- as it may in most of the health programs at MJCC?ReplyDelete
To say that the Dayton Daily News printed false information means you haven't done your homework in a while. It makes you look a bit like you are are accusing others of looking. It is also irresponsible. These students are getting enough false information without you adding yours. EVERYTHING that I personally print is highly RESEARCHED to make sure that it is truthful AND not libelous in any way. Since last November, I have spoken on more than one occasions with Lisa Emrich of the Ohio Board of Nursing. By going to the board's website, you may see the CONSENT AGREEMENT, that just by the listing shows that only 7 programs in the state are bad enough to have one. I also assure that Lisa Emrich has confirmed (I have the email from her) that Miami-Jacobs will have a board hearing to determine whether the PN program will be allowed to continue after the Education Liaison of the Ohio Board of Nursing has determined that it should be shut down. I assure you, the Ohio Board of Nursing does NOT take this situation lightly.
As you say, you studied very hard to graduate. How would you like to get close and have that graduation be in jeopardy because of faculty incompetence? No matter if we discuss it here or not, incompetence in education has a way of getting around....why does Miami Valley accept many other nursing programs, including CTC,but not one student from MJCC goes there for clinicals?
Let me give you an example of why I personally set up this website:
At the Springboro Campus:
For every 100 students who enroll, only 70 continue on to the second year.
Only 13 continued on to graduate!
At the Dayton Campus:
For every 100 students who enroll, only 41 come back for the second year.
37 of those students continued on to graduate!
We know that NONE of these credits transfer until the program has been completed. If those 50 students (out of 200) who graduated from Springboro and Dayton can afford to drive to Urbana daily, they can continue on with their studies....
At least 111 students out of those 200 did return for the second year, meaning that 61 students who did not graduate had debt of over $10,440 when they parted ways with the school, but no real education to pay for them. This is one of my biggest beefs, not only for the students, but as a taxpayer. These 61 students cost the taxpayers over $301,218 in totally wasted, but precious education dollars. That does NOT include the 89 students who left the school sometime during the first year....presumably after taking at least one or two quarters. These credits DO NOT TRANFER ANYWHERE!!!
I recently received the official articulation agreement from one of the students. Out of the six schools that MJCC has an articulation agreement with, NONE are really local and several deny having an articulation agreement with the school! An articulation agreement means that the school has an agreement with other schools to accept MJCC credits for attendance at those schools.
Out of all those students who did not come back, can you offically say that it was because the program was substandard? You don't need to attend the 6 schools they list for continuing education. The only reason that the schools in the area do not accept the credits is due to the fact the accreditation is not with the same board. If you went to Sinclair, your credits would not transfer to WSU. I know this for a fact because I spoke with WSU officals on this. Also, there are information sties on getting around this issue if you care to look. Someone I know is taking her credits to Atlanta...sounds to me like you are missing a little bit in your research, Connie.ReplyDelete
Now have you stopped to consider that MVH will not accept MJCC students at their hospital due to the fact the few students they did take initially ruined it for others with their attendance and behavior? One bad apple can ruin it for the entire bunch. THAT is why MVH won't take MJCC for clinicals. I know that for a fact.
Connie, you claim to do your homework and do the research but you can't do it halfway. You either get all the details or none at all. You are misinforming students about things more than I. There is a lot of missing information to what you are feeding eveyrone that is important to know.
ONE BAD APPLE WILL RUIN IT FOR THE BUNCH!
Based on what I see,A S is on of mjcc spies. The reality of it all is this is a bad school, whether extensive research is done or not tell me something,if the school is upright why is Clayton Luckie having a press conference tomorrow at the Dayton Campus at 1:00 to address the issues of the 7 surg tech students along with their attorneys?I also appreciate a site where we can air our opinions as some of us are still in school and know that if we complain we will get false charges against us and be put out,it happens, it really does.I know for a fact the reason MVH,GSH and Kettering will not allow us to do clinicals at their hospitals is because they don't think we have the skills proficient to perform them,I have talked to those in charge of these things and was told that, so there you have it,I think A S made up some stuff to make herself look good, too bad!!ReplyDelete
There is an insructor at mjcc, dayton campus with the initials AS,could that be you mrs.s,? Sure does sound like you and you sound a little upset so maybe this site is working!ps:ON APRIL 9,2010 AT 1:00 AT THE DAYTON CAMPUS,CLAYTON LUCKIE(REPRESENTATIVE)ERIN MOORE(ATTORNEY)THE MEDIA AND THE 7 SURG TECH STUDENTS WILL HOLD A PRESS CONFERENCE TO ADDRESS THEIR ISSUES,PLEASE COME OUT IN FORCE,WE MAY JUST BE ABLE TO AIR SOME OF OUR CONCERNS.If nothing else, this site allows us to inform one another of the latest going on at mjcc and I appreciate that, the more you know the better armed you are.kEEP UP THE GOOD WORK CONNIE,WE LOVE YOU!!!!ReplyDelete
I think AS is protesting too much to just be a concerned and happy former student. It doesn't make sense to put this much into it unless one has an agenda....BTW, I never said that ALL the programs were sub-standard. There are a LOT of other reasons that people do not finish their programs at MJCC that maybe you are not aware of. I hear from students all the time who are unhappy for various reasons. Many times, it is because certain things were NOT DISCLOSED at the time of enrollment. When things are not properly disclosed (as the nursing program being in jeopardy WAS NOT), the student does not make an informed choice on whether the school is the right fit for them.ReplyDelete
That is what I am here for. Again, the articulation agreement that I spoke of was the OFFICIAL version from the school. If others take the credits, the school would be wise to list them, since most of the schools actually listed DO NOT. Yes, I called all of them, except Miller-Motte, located in NC and one of Delta's schools....also, I am not talking about credits from a COMPLETED program, but from a partially finished program. In fact, I said in the post, "We know that none of these credits transfer until the program has been completed." I also suggest that you look at this website at Sinclair to view the programs that are accepted at Wright State through an articulation agreements: http://www.sinclair.edu/transfer/schools/agreements/ I know of many, many people who started at Sinclair, took the general ed courses and a few more specialized courses, transferred to Wright State and graduated from there. In other words, I suggest you do better research before YOU start giving out false information. Believe me, I am sure that, as upset as you, a former student is over this website, don't you imagine that if I said ANYTHING libelous that MJCC's attorneys would have tried to shut me down before now? I do my homework, do yours.
If you print things when you do not know what you are talking about, you lose credibility.
I found this site by putting in mjcc complaints,I had a vested interest in finding out as much as I could about them because I was getting shafted, imagine my surprise when this site popped up,since then I have been following it almost daily, now my question-how did A S know about this site and why does it interest her?Yes she has lost her credibility because we know who she is(staff) !ReplyDelete
Totally agree with 4/8 3:52. His/her drivel was straight out of the MJCC/Delta handbook. Trust me, I read that handbook.ReplyDelete
I was an instructor at MJ and I am aware of grades being changed without the instructors knowledge. There was an instance where a Paralegal Studies instructor turned in her grades as percentages and not letters as they wanted. Then the Registrar converted the numbers to letters to be entered into the computer. I think there were 7 students in the class, 2 Bs, 4 Ds, and an F. Well the student with the F complained to the DOE about the grade, and 2 days later a Grade Change form was submitted to change the F to a C with the reason listed as the instructor was unaware of the new grading scale. Well a percent is a percent, it doen't matter if the instructor knew what letter it converted to or not, if the student received a 70%, then they should get what a 70% converts to and not a higher grade to please the student.ReplyDelete
Well, about a week later, guess what, 4 more grade change forms came through for the 4 students that received Ds, and now they got Cs as well.
So if you are a student, go complain about your grade, there is a good chance that the DOE will change your grade without your instrutor knowing about it.
I believe that I had grades changed on myself as well without my knowledge. But, in my case, if someone could get a hold of the grade cards for my classes and compare them with the final grades on the students transcripts, I bet there would be numerous discrepencies. And the easy way to tell is that I always signed my grade cards in red ink and always attached the spreadsheet of their grades, which I also signed. So if I changed a grade, it would be on the spreadsheet with my signature.
Well that's enough from me now. I will probably post some more at a later date.
I would say come find me...but you wouldn't be able to since I no longer attend the school. Good luck to you all. I am tired of the bs. Oh and by the way...leave whoever that teacher is out of it....it wouldn't be fair to them to get bashed for something they didn't do. Like I said, I took a non-medical program, so I don't know who all of the teachers are. Good luck and so long. Again, I will keep an eye on the page just for entertainment.ReplyDelete
Miami Jacobs has a real problem. Many of us took the RT program at the Dayton Campus. We have all passed our CRT's. Unfortunately we still do not have jobs. No one will even look at our resumes. We tried at one point to get help from the career services department. That was a joke they sent us on our merry way. Well in the mean time we still need our years work experience outside the classroom. I guess we are on our own. Everyone that goes to Miami Jacobs is not a blooming idiot. Many of the other schools had a long waiting list. I am hopeful something good will happen!ReplyDelete
Why does that last post by AS remind me of a movie? "Oh....and by the way...leave whoever that teacher is out of it" = PAY NO ATTENTION TO THAT MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN! said the Wizard....who was a fraud! LOL! Believe me, we have all seen enough fraud at MJCC without you getting involved. Thank goodness you are tired of your bs, because we are too.ReplyDelete
No...not tired of my bs...only yours and everyone else. You ought to run for office, Connie, because you are a lot like other politicians out there...lots of stories but won't do anything with them. Why won't you reveal your education? Seems to me like you are hiding behind a smoke screen. You are taking a one sided biased approach to things. Come look behind the curtian Connie, you will be suprised to find out that I am not who you are hell bent on thinking who I am. I feel so sad for people like you who have nothing better to do but find fault in others. When in accuality, you are the one with faults that you refuse to change and get pissed when anyone points them out. Maybe someday you will go to school and learn how to research things properly.ReplyDelete
Again, I do not claim to have a degree at all....is there something wrong with your reading comprehension? I have had to point out several reading comprehension errors since you have been posting.ReplyDelete
As for my education, it has nothing to do with this, though I freely admit that I have about 65 credits through Sinclair College. I have also attended the school of Hard Knocks and at 50 years old, have done more than many people who have a degree, including being a bar and also a banquet manager at a hotel, an administrator at an assisted living facility for mental health residents for almost 6 years, including doing all the Medicaid billing, running my very own successful 5,000 sq. ft. new and used furniture business for over 5 years, where I bought and sold estates and then was a successful Realtor on Clearwater Beach until I voluntarily and temporarily stepped aside for a time. My license is still with C21 and I am still a member in good standing with Pinellas Realtor Organization. I currently help with my granddaughter who had a brain tumor and is very much in a recovery stage, though at some point, I do plan to go back to work as a Realtor.
As a Realtor, I can explain to you what every paragraph of every page of the contract says(could be up to 10-12 pages or even more, depending on contingencies) and what it means to my client, whether buyer or seller. What I realized right up front was that MARCIA BYRD, FINANCIAL AID DIRECTOR, did not really understand what the Master Promissory Note contained, not even on the FRONT PAGE. The MPN is the CONTRACT that the student signs when they get a federal student loan. Ms. Byrd had NO IDEA that the front page, just an inch or two above the signature line, contained an in-school deferment. Neither did the original financial aid officer who told us we would have an "automatic" deferment, showing a shocking lack of training. We must remember that, unlike my clients, many of these students have never dealt with contracts before and should have someone knowledgeable explaining to them exactly what they are signing. That is the same case as the enrollment "agreement" which is another CONTRACT. The student is not really informed that it IS a contract and that, by signing it, are giving up their right to sue in a court of law.
I may not be an attorney, but I do understand legalese. I think I proved that by my last blog: http://www.whyitmatters.org/2010/03/miami-jacobs-career-college-and-some.html Miamipost, whether parts of the CFR or the ORC (federal and state regulations) are copied and pasted or not. By the way, that is called attribution. That means that I am giving credit where it is due and not trying to get others to think that I wrote it.
I would have a problem looking behind your curtain as you continue to hide behind your initials. I am very upfront on who I am and have done everything but give my home address....I do have a problem with you peeping through MY curtains lol. Anyway, our only problem is that you protest too much for being just a former student, so YOUR agenda is suspect.
I will close with this: you accuse me of not being able to research things properly, yet you have yet to be able to pinpoint an area in which I have erred in my research. I hesitate to say....but from your knowledge of electrician internships to your knowledge of credit acceptance at Wright State to your reading comprehension, you have shown your lack thereof.
well connie if you do decide to go back to school please dont go to miami jacobs1 lol who is this teacher or administrator from mj that doesnt have anything better to do then bash the students because we dont get any help at miami jacobs then bash connie because she speaks the truth and gives us a place to tell how we feel seems like sheor he watchs this sight a little to often to be doing any real job herself what this person fails to realize is its the whole school i could see if one person was so dissatisfied then maybe that person would not be doing what they are supposed to do but this idiot is trying to take up for a school that has no ethics or morals they are inand out of the paper press conferences people suing this school and this idiot is one here pissed of because everyone reading this sight would have to know she is a moron and she works for or with the school! By the way i thought she was going to keep her comments to herself then she made a comment that if we thought she was a teacher go to that teacher and quote her comments like we dont no exactly who she is, her way of talking doesnt change from school or this sight! Could be several of the teachers or administration if not why does she take so much time trying to say she is NOT them?ReplyDelete
Connie you shouldnt give this teacher/administrator the time of day explaining yourself this person works for the school and thats obvious even though i never met you connie you are a wonderful person and i thank you for this sight! And to the morons comment about these are the same people posting believe me honey there are hundreds of students a miami jacobs disatisfied and i have never posted yea everybody has the same story thats because the school sucks so if the person A.S. is tired of our bs maybe she should find something else to do besides take up for a school whos name is mud cheats their students out of every dime they can and dont provide a proper education!ReplyDelete
Thank you....this is why I do this, for people just like you. I know how devastated my own daughter was -- who was on honor roll and had perfect attendance until they screwed up everything for her by giving out false information in the financial aid office. We cannot accuse them of fraud there, as it is plain that they just didn't know what they were talking about....pitiful, when you have young students looking up to supposed professional financial aid officers and thinking that the info you get from them is accurate....ReplyDelete
Anyway, I am not ashamed of my education. In fact, I have laughed about it with a few students from the school as it is certainly ironic that I would take on higher education when I do not have a degree myself.
One might say that I have educated myself and I daresay that if I was the financial aid director at MJCC, I would be well trained if I had to train myself. As one of my college accounting teachers said, it is not so much as important to remember everything you learn, but to know where to go to find the information.
In the case of financial aid, I would have a current copy of The Common Manual downloaded for easy access so that neither myself nor my staff were giving out incorrect information to any student. My staff would also be well trained, as I would expect my staff to be understand that we hold the financial future of the students in our hands.
I am wondering if it is true, as one of the students informed me, that the VA is investigating the financial aid office at MJCC. I certainly wasn't surprised by that as my own daughter had VA funds for going to school. They came in so haphazardly that when we called the VA to find out what was the problem, they let us know that the school was always tardy in sending out the verification forms. We also found out that the school could send them out every 6 months instead of one month at a time....we always wondered if that was Ms. Byrd's way of getting us back for showing how incompetent she was. She knew that my daughter had a child and that it was her only form of income at the time.
I called Ms. Byrd directly, asked her about it and she said that she could do it every 6 months, but she needed my daughter to ask her teacher to email confirmation to her that she was attending the program. Isn't it amazing that the teacher had to email confirmation for the VA while the financial aid office was receiving disbursements for loans without needing that same confirmation....
Anyway, anybody else got any inside info on whether the VA is actually investigating?
It was a wonderful day to be downtown at 1:00,all the news people, the camera's,the lawyers, the student's especially the surg tech students, people driving by and wondering what was going on and making sure they watched the 6:00 news to see what was happening(and it was on all the local news channels, don't you just love it)My friends, today I saw history in the making-the end of mj.I am so happy I could just cry tears of joy,at last at last at last.Just don't think that enrollment will pick up ,lol.ReplyDelete
I don't know when the next elections are for state rep but you can believe I'm voting for Clayton Luckie!!!!!ReplyDelete
Found this posted in Dayton's Craigslist classafieds this week, found it interesting!!ReplyDelete

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal for their staff, too bad the students are takin it up the rear!!
Too bad it is a temporary job!ReplyDelete
I used to work there. They pay about half of what other colleges pay. That is why they have to settle for unqualified instructors. They can't find people willing to work for what they pay. Connie, that is probably the main reason for most of the problems in that school. They want all adjunct instructors. The only reason they are hiring full-time now is due to the upcoming investigation.ReplyDelete
That is the problem with some of these "for-profit" schools. They start concentrating so much on the profit that they forget that they also have to educate the student. Now that not only the nursing program, but the respiratory therapy program is in jeopardy, they might as well give it up. For all those who have accused me and the other posters here of trying ot bring the school down need to apologize to us...we do not need to do anything! The school and its incompetent management are doing it for us. Thank you Darlene and Faith....oh yes, and Marcia has done her part too. We appreciate it!ReplyDelete
Sadly, the victims are the students left with huge debts and nothing to show for it. Hopefully someone can get in there and straighten the place out. Many in "upper management" need to be held accountable.ReplyDelete

You people are unbelievable. Part of the problem with the student body at MJ is that you people are adults acting like babies and you expect everyone to hold your hand and make things easy for you. That is not how the real world works. Tell me of one school that is worth anything in which you will graduate without student loans? Do you expect the school to pay that back for you? Tell me about one school that can guarantee that a student will graduate or get a job after graduation? Do you expect not to have to work hard for yourself? Tell me about one school that will not hold you accountable for your own success. I graduated from University of Dayton in 2006 and my sister from MJ in 2007. And she is successful b/c she works hard, not because she thinks she's entitled to it. Not one time at my 4 year university did I ever meet with an advisor, or career services, or get free tutoring or any quidance whatsoever. When I did my clinicals, I had to find placement all on my own. I had to do my own homework and my own studying and work for my own success. If there's one mistake that MJ has made it is babying its students. Grow up. This is the real world. And if you are in an interview with an employer and they ask you why you were not successful in school, they will laugh at you if you say that your school did you wrong. Stop complainging and expecting life to hand you success, its something that is earned, so earn it.ReplyDelete
What's wrong with anon.4/12/10 @1:10 pm?People have a right to complain this is the USA,why are you so upset, did you go to mjcc, have you been lied to, discriminated against, had false charges made against you leading to your dismissal, had curriculum changes made 3 weeks before the next quarter, beem intimidated by staff and threated with dismissal if you complain to the boards, given busy work when what you needed was skills and a knowledge base that would assist you in passing your boards,is the local news and state representative liars,is the board of nursing and the accreditation entity for the resp program all liars? Again I ask you,why are you so upset? You need to grow up,you sound like a whiner to me and one of mjcc spies, make that staff.Keep watching this site and the news,it's not over yet,the best is yet to come, think you are mad now, just hold on.ReplyDelete
Do you really believe the surg tech students got a fair shake because if you do there is something very wrong with you.ReplyDelete
Many of these negative comments seem to stem from the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" mentality, all the while ignoring the reports from MJCC staff, instructors, and students that point to discrimination, deceit, and inadequate preparation. You can't move up if you're been forced down. I've even read comments by nurses from facilities that hire nursing graduates of for-profit colleges. One nurse openly stated that her facility will not hire anyone from MJCC because of the students' inadequate training. It would cost them more than they can spare in time and money for re-training those students.ReplyDelete
While I agree that students are responsible for finding job placement after they have graduated, if they did not graduate from an accredited program, their job options are severely limited. This is regardless of how hard they worked to learn as much as they could. If they entered a program that they had been told by the college was accredited, paid out the money for that accredited degree, and then found out post-graduation that their degree is no good anywhere, they have reason complain.
While the most recent Anonymous believes these students who are filing complaints are "babies", it seems calling students such names for standing up for their rights sounds downright juvenile. There will always be complaints no matter how great an institution is, but the sheer number of complaints that consistently report the same experiences...? And in addition to the anecdotal evidence, there is harder evidence for the lack of accreditation - and those decision-making accreditation boards are made up of "adults", I'm assuming. I'm not sure there is really any disputing (other than administration at MJCC) that there is something unethical going on at this school.
One more point - the cost of an education at MJCC is almost (and in some cases higher) than the cost of tuition at a public, highly ranked 4 year institution! Same cost, far from the same education. I understand that some people attending MJCC do not meet the requirements for admission at some of those 4 year colleges. However, that highlights even more so how students attending MJCC out of lack of options are being victimized.
While it's not necessary that I state my education, it seems there are questions from Anonymous and A S about educational background, as if that somehow qualifies a person to advocate on behalf of themselves or others. I've attended large public research I universities in different states for 2 bachelors degrees, 1 masters degree, and was most recently accepted into a doctoral program for Fall 2010. Additionally, I have at least 7 years post-grad work experience in the "real world", as you call it.
Get off your high horses, Anonymous and A S. You weren't on the receiving end of the same treatment these students, faculty and staff have received, so get out of their way. They have things to say and they deserve to be heard.
P.S. I'd LOVE to hear more stories about Darlene Waite. Have any?
Yes, I would definitely like to hear those stories about Darlene that Connie has been promising for 3 long months. I am beginning to think there are no stories about her. :(ReplyDelete
Very well said "unqualified advocate" and there are some horror stories about darlene and they will be publised,as you know Connie has been sick and her little grandchild has suffered a traumatic brain disorder, give her a break,it's coming.Anybody know anything about the career services person that was fired for posting on facebook, what in the world did he say?ReplyDelete
MjCC is now under invenstigation by the State of Ohio and is in jeopardy of losing it's licensure, "nuff said."ReplyDelete
As a writer, it is not hardly "nuff said" for me. I like to know the WHO, when, etc. of everything! WHO is investigating? If it is the Ohio Board of Career Colleges AND the governor is not on their a**es about it, then I seriously doubt any thing will come of it...I have never heard of, even on these pages, such a walking, talking brochure for career colleges in the state of Ohio as Mr. John Ware, Executive Director of the board. The way he was so defensive on the phone with me, indicated that Dave Larsen's article was inaccurate and just his general bad attitude told me that this man is not a friend of the students in the state, but of the colleges. As a regulatory board, it is a joke! I have more coming about this later in the second part of the blog, http://www.whyitmatters.org/2010/03/miami-jacobs-career-college-and-some.html , which I hope will be finished this afternoon. I am looking forward to shedding a bit more light on this board for the good people of the state to see. I also plan to forward a copy to Representative Luckie AND John Ware's boss, Governor Strickland.ReplyDelete
Pleae give us more information. (I may possibly be too curious for my own good :)
We haven't seen the stories about Darlene Waite yet because Connie is still making them up, I mean writing them...ReplyDelete
LOL, too funny, Darlene.ReplyDelete
My class of 20 PN students at MJ has already lost 3 classmates in the last 3 weeks. They were 1/3 of the way done, but quit because the stress of possibly not being able to graduate or sit for the state boards was too much!! Oh and by the way I believe they are starting new PN students tommorrow!! Unbelievable $$$$$$$ReplyDelete
To whomever is sticking up for the crackpot administrators and staff @ MJCC- Its just like this, Ive been to a "real" college and am really offended by your comments. You can not tell me that the issues I have with MJCC are MY fault. You are an ignorant MJCC employee slingin crap ecause you knopw ur next move will be to the unemployment line!I hope you rot there for taking so many peoples futures and ruining them with empty promices and an inadequate staff. You arent fooling anybody, your goin down and I cant wait to see it, sign my name to ANYTHING, talk to the Dayton Daily, and channel 7!I will be so glad to see that place go down, AND I will see it...as will you. Which side will you be standing on?ReplyDelete
TYPOS, Im sure you'll pick on them so Ill address the fact that they are their rite now and save yourself the trouble! The only thing inaccurate in the above paragraph are the TYPOS themselves!ReplyDelete
Yes yes yes,mj is going down for all the world to see and i am one happy camper!!!!!any typo's,well get over it,much bigger things are going on now,i agree with the last post, the only thing inaccurate are the typs'o not the facts and the facts are ,this school has done a lot of wrong to students and are now having to answer for that.ReplyDelete
MJCC, has been around for 150 years that is along time. They are not going "down" they have a shit ton of money and nothing will happen to that school. I attend there and they are still telling their students there are NO accreditation problems, but if you talk to the Respiratory board there ARE accreditation problems. If you are currently a student like myself you can sit for the state boards, but the problem with that is we can't pass the boards without a lot of review and studying. I feel that we should be able to pass the boards based on the education we received but that was totally inadequate. Any state board would be insane to give this school accreditation. Many of us stayed and finished our degrees because we were already in so much debt it was pointless to leave considering that no other school will except our credits. This is not a good school to go to the instructors are great people buy piss poor teachers with the exception of a few. Don't waste your money or time, and if you think that all this won't affect the job market your an idiot. They will tell their students what they want them to hear to keep people calm.ReplyDelete
Well looks like current students wont get to sit for boards if they dont pass ATI's! What a joke whats going on with that?ReplyDelete
I can tell you that the Respiratory students can sit for their boards. The director of CoArc has confirmed this. Nursing may be a different story.ReplyDelete
I was wondering if any of you have found out yet if there is any help yet that a student may be able to get to help them pay back their student loans? I am a student at the mjcc Troy campus, and i am about ready to finish thank god i get the hell out of thee on July first. The problem with that school is they have you sign a shit tun of papers and give i a cd dvd or wht the hell ever it is that is telling you what you can and cant wear the tattoo's and piercings you can and can't have not to leave out though how many ring you can wear on one hand. Which is all total BULL SHIT i was married in October and my wedding set is a three piece ring tht consists of the band and the two piece engagement set that was given to me by my husband that was his mothers original wedding set all aside from the band it's self and i am being told i can only have one ring on my hand wht the hell is tht to any person it doesn't matter wht the wedding set looks likle it is still just ONE ring thus it being called a wedding set, oh and as far as the tattoo's and piercings go I am TO COVER THEM UP and TAKE THEM OUT once again WTFE and this is just recent i have been there for over two f'n years if it botherd them tht much they should have said something to me when they first met me and were going all through their hole line of BS , and out of no where you hear well the piercings and tattoo's you have can be desterbing to the clientell we have comming in tht rt ther is BS as well most of the time you would never see my piercings as i have long haiar and it is almost all the time down as far as my tattoo u can't see it unless i turn my arm over and even if it is seen i am asked questions on y i picked the tattoo that i have and after my explination as to y to them that is one of the best forms of tattoo's and art they have ever seen so HA HA mjcc. As far as hiring students to work there rather to be an instructor or not in some cases i think it is for the best and think that one instructor in my program should be replaced if u v=can even call her an instructor all she does is sit in her office all day or out eating or out talking to somebody else tht has nothing to do with our program so the students r left to go to a few and trusted other students for help as on how to do a service and then usuially that student that helps or gets the help get a talking to on " you girls know that you are to come to one of us instructors for help or any question you might have on something" for the most part a great deal of the students should be getting paid to go ther rather then paying to go there.ReplyDelete
MJCC is NOT MJCC and they will go down!! They retained the name so they could lie to the general public. The secrets out and they will go down!ReplyDelete
Hi, just heard from a good source that there are "Recent developments concerning Miami-Jacobs Career College. Representative Luckie, along with a representative from the Attorney General’s office, Board of Regents, and State Board of Career Colleges have scheduled a hearing of students that have been involved in this situation. It will take place April 23, 2010 from... 3pm-6pm at the Dayton Cultural Center (40 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd., Dayton Ohio 45402)"ReplyDelete
I sure wish I could be there. Since I can't, I sure hope we have a good crowd of all of you out there! This is a great opportunity since the Attorney General will be there. Since this is a for-profit school, it is just like any other consumer item that you purchased and the Attorney General's office is involved now! YAY! Clayton Luckie is on our side and doing some great things!
Before you go to the meeting, take as look at my newest post: http://www.whyitmatters.org/2010/04/ohio-board-of-career-colleges-just-who.htmlReplyDelete
It is an eye-opening article on the Board of Career Colleges.
Ex-employee again. When the Board of Career Colleges would come for their "inspection" it was nothing more than a meeting of the Mutual Admiration Society.
who has ever heard of these type people getting involved in a school, who has ever heard of a "town meeting " for a school so you know mjcc must be pretty bad!ReplyDelete
WE ASKED FOR HELP, WE ASKED FOR PEOPLE THAT COULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT MJCC AND THEIR NONSENSE,WE ASKED SOMEONE WITH SOME KIND OF POWER TO INVESTIGATE THE SCHOOL'S SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES,WE WROTE TO EVERYBODY WE COULD THINK OF,WE FOGHT AS MUCH AS WE COULD,WE WERE THREATENED PUT OUT LIED UPON INTIMIDATED YOU NAME IT MJCC DID IT AND FINALLY CLAYTON LUCKIE HEARD OUR PLEAS AND CONTACTED THOSE WHO COULD HELP US.NOW, I SAY TO YOU ALL THIS IS OUR CHANCE TO BE HEARD AND I"M ASKING YOU TO COME OUT IN HUGE NUMBERS FOR THE MEETING TOMMORROW EVEN IF YOU DON"T HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY OR FOR YOUR OWN PERSONAL REASONS CHOOSE NOT TO SPEAK PLEASE COME TO THIS MEETING TO SUPPORT THOSE OF US THAT WILL SPEAK OUT AGAINST THEM,LET NOT WHAT WE HAVE FOUGHT SO HARD FOR COME TO NOTHING,THIS MAY BE THE ONLY CHANCE WE HAVE TO SHOW THESE PEOPLE WE MEANT WHAT WE SAID AND IF WE DON"T SHOW UP WHO WILL EVER TAKE US SERIOUSLY AGAIN.PLEASE PLEASE COME TO THE MEETING!ReplyDelete
MJCC IS a joke, failing to tell me that I would OWE a balance of 25% of my tuition if I decide to go else where. With any other college, your FAFSA loans would just go with you. No. You owe the SCHOOL money AND your FAFSA loans. Also, paying a monthly balance is a joke, even if you pay the entire tuition. The curriculum is a JOKE. They make everything sound great. Creating a spot for me for day classes, but in reality, making me switch to night classes. I would STRONGLY recommend looking else where. The longer you're there, the more money you owe to them.ReplyDelete
Im just hoping people dont forget the wrong i guess some will forget when they get out but if you dont try to fix the problem the first time it will come right back around please dont let a couple of wks of this school being silent make you forget! Still its the same thing today as it has been in the begining stand for something or fall for anything!ReplyDelete
Tonight there was a pinning ceremony for the pn students, you know I really feel for you all because what happens when you don't pass and not all of you are going to pass! The ceremony was a joke,a very sad joke on those students, who has ever heard of a pinning for a class that has not completed their course of study and remember you still have your comprehensive to get through.Don't think mjcc is going to forget about that,I assure you they will not!ReplyDelete
Any news on how the hearing went on Friday?ReplyDelete
I was not able to attend, but heard that there were about 20 or so people there. I will have more as one of the attendees is writing the details for all of us who were not able to attend. As soon as I get that, we will post it here. I heard that it was very sad as some cried as they told their stories. The authorities were paying attention and taking notes. Do not worry. I believe that we have caught the attention of the right people. Something will be done!ReplyDelete
